How To Identify Imported Goods Before...

I got this information in my e-mailbox this morning, thought it was very good so decided to share.......it's often difficult to determine what products come from the U.S. and what comes from overseas, especially Taiwan and/or China.

Okey, here's how you can tell!

The first three digits of the barcode that start with either 690, 691, or 692 indicate that the product is made in China.

The first three digits of the barcode that start with 471 indicates the product is made in Taiwan.

The first two digits of the barcode that starts with:

00 or 09 - made in USA &/or Canada

30 or 37 - made in France

40 or 44 - made in Germany

49 - Japan

50 - United Kingdom

I found this to be very interesting and helpful! Plan to keep a copy of this when I go shopping!

Not sure if that works entirely because I know on my store brand stuff all Kroger Brand stuff starts with 01111

I'll have to investigate the next day I work and see how this pans out. .

and I just grabbed the first thing on my desk : Marshall Farms Ferret Ear Cleaner (yeah you can t ell I'm a pet person when the first thing on my desk is pet related haha) and it is made in the USA but its UPC is: 76650100084

Luke, thank you very much for that info....I wasn't familiar with Snopes.com prior to this.......I'm very sorry for providing incorrect information..........the e-mail I got looked like it was an original and not forwarded by anyone.

Not necessarily so, sometimes items are made oversees but for a US company, so the US barcode is put on it.

The best way to know is to look for the words 'Made in XXXXX'
