What happens if you delete groups

Do you lose gather points? I have a few groups that I don't have the time to participate in. If I delete them do I or the owners lose points?

hmmmmmm, good question.... I have a question, why do people delete the groups they belong to? I only ask because I like belonging to a lot of groups that way I can post relevant things to the various groups.

You don't get points for joining a group, so if you delete them, you don't lose any points. The owners of a group make fractions of points for you posting to them, so they may lose a slight amount from your future articles you won't be posting to them...but they won't lose any points they've already earned through your participation to their groups. If you don't post to them; no sense cluttering up your 'Groups' pages or wading through them when you're selecting which groups to publish to.

People delete groups because they don't use them. I used to sign up for every group I was invited to join. There were many i never published to, so no sense being a member of a group I never use. You can always join a group at a later time if you write something relevant to that group. I've done that...then deleted the group after I've posted to it.

I am not sure about groups. But I know if you delete an article or photo. You do not loose the points you earned for them. I asked Gather about this a year ago. Because of some freebie lists, I wanted to remove, plus they were all expired. And they were hiding my other posts, that I wanted nearer the top.. Thankfully, the started the spotlighting at on our profile page. =)

I would like to be able to delete a group I made. But don't know how to do it.. I think I would have to email Gather and tell them to do it.. not sure~

You don't earn points for creating groups, or for joining groups. Group owners also do not receive points for content you post to their group. Hence, you can remove yourself from any group without concern!

If you belong to a lot of groups it's very hard to participate in them all. If I was only doing this for points I would have to delete those who do not come to the group and participate. I do it for and as friends. What is a social network if you can't socialize.
