Newsvine, which is owned by MSNBC, is a social bookmarking site, much like Digg and Reddit. They allow people to post links to articles that people think might be of interest and to vote for articles they like (unlike Digg or Reddit there is no down-vote button so the site is much less vulnerable to cliques picking on people).
Unlike Digg or Reddit, they also allow you to write articles for your own "column" and to comment on other people's articles or links. And they share revenue with you - you get earnings paid two months in arrears and as soon as you reach $25 you can cashout via Paypal. They do not have a referral program.
It does take a while to get established there though. Newbies are placed in the "greenhouse" where they stay for a few months till people vote their articles up (the best way to get out of the Greenhouse is to make friends who will help you). Being in the greenhouse means that your articles and links don't make the front pages, but you still accrue earnings. People who do get estabished and make the front page have the potential to get hundreds of readers and sometimes thousands, as this is a mainstream site.
The crowd that hang out on Newsvine are older than the Digg and Reddit crowd and they seem more right-wing/centrist. Whereas on Reddit saying something nice about Mrs Clinton would get you buried, Newsvine seems to have Repubs on there as well as Obama Dems and Clinton Dems. Certainly stuff that would get buried on Reddit has a chance to breathe on Newsvine. It's quite a serious site - most articles are on topical issues. I've never seen a silly thread on there.
If you are someone who reads the press and enjoys sharing links to what you've discovered and enjoys writing topical pieces yourself, then Newsvine is the place for you. To explore the Newsvine site, click here.

I am wondering what is going on right now with Newsvine since I started it. I got out of the Greenhouse right away. I did want it to make money. I am still interested in some of the topics but they are not really so it won't do much good, a little. I have just a couple of friends and I don't like asking or begging sometimes I do. I even noticed I was on the front page the other day I was surprised. I don't have money out of it as far as I know. I know it takes a while. I can see the views so I should have something. Maybe later. I like the layout. At least they have their own pics set up with Flickr too.
