I'm a middle of the road, liberal consevative.
I believe in the right to life and I also understand a woman's right to choose.
I belive that business should prosper to create jobs
I believe low income people should be helped.
I belive in protecting our borders
I believe people who have less in their own countries should be allowed to come to our country to work, at least as long as there are enough jobs for our citizens
I belive the belief systems of all should be allowed but that does not give anyone the right to harm another because of that belief system.
I believe we should develop our own fuel power
I believe we should preserve our wildlife when necessary.
I believe in the right of free speech, the right to bear arms, but for protection purposes. If a person lives in an area rife with crime, they should be able to have a defense. I also believe if we take arms away from private citizens more crime will be committed by those who manage to have weapons. If someone wants to harm another, they will find a way with or without guns.
I believe America is the greatest country in the world.
I believe in the right to vote, and I pray that right is never taken away from us.
Now, if you take away the right to bear arms belief, who did I vote for?

Impossible to say since neither candidate is threatening to take your guns away
Please put clickable links in your emails.
But, I will vote for Obama!
But maybe only in America, where the "center" is skewed right because of how far to the right the average conservative is.
Will add more clues--my step father and husband were both career army officers and I have alway been proud to me an Army Brat and Army Wife.
My mother was a single mom on wellfare before marrying my step father.
Do these help at all?
Obama knew lots of Jewish people in Chicago (they made fun of him for it, then) so Obama.
Yeah Obama knows all about a multi-cultural America.
Amen.
I think you voted for McCain. If you have military in your family, you know that this war needs a knowledgeable leader to bring it to an end. Obama doesn't have that knowledge, nor does he have any experience in that area. Many of the "hints" given point to both, but some point more strongly to McCain.
HA HAAHHAHAHA haha ah haaa
Have you watched a McCain or Palin rally lately? I think the morals went out the window Rove style.
Are you pro-choice or anti-choice ???
Mary - you voted Obama.
The concept of a Bradley Effect is that some people will say they will vote for the black guy, but then vote against him. This is probably mostly racist democrats who feel their racism will be exposed if they vote against a popular candidate of their own party. But there's evidence in some southern states of a reverse Bradley Effect. I think this is due to pressure to BE racist (like you said, Peter, where it's cool or expected to be that way) causing a person to say they will vote for the white guy, but secretly support the black candidate.
BTW, I've experienced what you've talked about throughout my whole life. Crazy stuff. And I'm in Eastern PA, not that racist Western PA. (haha, that's a joke referencing those Murtha statements... though the guy is essentially correct, but was wrong not to specify that it was only some people, not the whole area that was like that.)
(my bad)
My mother thought Roosevelt was another Jesus
Myf husband thought Joe McCarthy was a hero
Which one might have had the most influence on my thinking? Both are deceased.
Your answers haven't cleared anything up for me.
But, my instinct tells me that you voted for Obama.
I couldn't agree more- I may not agree with everyone politically, but everyone votes for the person they feel will be best.
Personally, I'm voting Obama, because I feel that he has a much better chance at getting this country to where it needs to be. And no, Morals won't go out the window.
LOL---Kidding, obviously (though I would have liked to have seen their faces more in this campaign). Pretty sure you voted Obama. I know I did! ------- No matter who an individual thinks best represents them, I hope they ALL get out there and vote their heart. It's important, people!
who?
I hope I am wrong. Most of the statements above are close to Obama's positions, with the exception of immigration.
"I believe people who have less in their own countries should be allowed to come to our country to work, at least as long as there are enough jobs for our citizens."
Obama has said that he believes in working to build better economies in underdeveloped countries, and better relationships with nations around the world, so people in these countries can do better where they live. A better global humanitarian policy would also work to stem the tide of terrorism and anti-American sentiment.
~Obama/Biden 08
But Mary reading your other posts I would say you voted for McCain but the real point is you voted. Kudos.
When it became apparent that Obama and McCain were going to be our candidates I told my wife that this is a "no lose" election for the American people. Both are good honest men and both want to do what is best for the country. Unfortunately since that time McCain has made an unexpected turn to the far right and in my view acted in an irrational manner on many of his campaign decisions.
I can say that I agree with most everthing you said in your post and that would make me think that you voted for Obama because that is what I did.
I would have voted for him back in 2000 had he secured the nomination. Not now. No way.
Mooch
My wish is that more people could see the harm the ultra right and ultra left bring about. I am appaled that both extremes are willing to do about anything to have their way. It doesn't help our country at all.
McCain. 100% sure. I can't see how you would vote Obama although the original post suggests Obama.
I am 71--lived through WWII, the cold war, Korea, Viet Nam, all the left and right and moderate presidents since Roosevelt--I am truly concerned about what is happening in our country now. Democracy and Capitalism can be so easily defeated without a shot being fired.
Listen! Listen! and most of all care--care about our country and it's future.
Obama/Biden !!!!
Recession is coming. Send the culprits home. If you like another recession in four years, renew the lease of the current tenants of the white house.
If you want the prosperity we experienced before Bush took office, send the democrats back to the white house.
Reagan = Deficit.
Bush I = Deficit.
Clinton = Surplus.
Bush II = Deficit, Two wars, Market Crash, Recession.
The data is clear, America. McCain says he is a fiscal conservative. We've heard that before.
Fiscal Conservative
Fran Lebowitz, at the end of the Cold War, commented, "In the Soviet Union, capitalism triumphed over communism. In this country, capitalism triumphed over democracy."
I am learning a lot of about people in this election. You certainly fall into the demographic that would typically favor McCain. But then again, my own Mom and Dad, who are a decade older than you and who lived through the Great Depression, and my Dad a solider in World War II, both lifelong Republicans -- changed their party to vote for Sen. Obama.
Go figure.
I am 67 and have seen a lot of things you have but I am very comfortable with having voted for Obama.
I have enjoyed your article and this thread. For the most part it has been very civilized.
What has a man once he forgoes his honor?
One only has to look around our country, in line at the super market, at church, at PTA meetings, in Sears or Target, in our schools to see we are a very different country than we were even 20 years ago. Our leaders must work for the good of ALL.
Whoever wins on Tues has my prayers and my full backing. It's the American way--at least I hope so.
