The Good News and the Bad News -Lulu update

The good news is that as of yesterday the "digest" publishing option became available on Lulu.com. They now offer a "publisher's grade" of paper for 5.5 x 8.5 and 8 1/2 X 11 and publishing at those options are less expensive.

The bad news is there is not ISBN distribution available with that option, so I had to create two different versions of the second edition with the new cover; one with a 5.5 X 8.5 cover, the other with a 6X9 cover. The smaller book will be available exclusively from Lulu.com, the other will eventually replace the first edition on Amazon.com-- but not for a couple months.

I also ordered a library control number, so the 6X9 version will eventually be available to libraries. So far the only actual book I ordered was a copy of the smaller book. Hopefully, by the time I get that I will have my library number to add to the 6X9 book and I'll be able to get that approved for the ISBN distribution.

I wonder why they didn't make the cheaper option with ISBN's, maybe that is why it is cheaper.

Weird that they don't offer the ISBN with the publisher's grade paper. And weirder that Publisher's grade would be cheaper! (that comment comes from a publisher) Congratulations and good luck with the new edition.

not offering ISBNs hurts them, too -- hurts their creditability and could repel potential users, right? odd.

The person on the live chat said there was a chance the ISBN on the digest paper might happen someday, but she couldn't say for sure. Maybe there is some approval process they have to go through, or maybe they just want to make sure the demand doesn't go away for the higher grade paper -- which worked, I guess. I did publish both sizes of the book.

I did use slightly smaller font-- but not too small, on the ISBN book which resulted in fewer pages than the original, so I was able to knock a dollar off the price.
