As if Hollywood wasnt making enough 80s Horror remakes it now ventures into other genres of desparate remakes. New on the remake books is a story you might remember and was made in 1984.
A town bans dancing of any type and Rock Music is banned. Out of no where a hero comes to try save the day. In the original, that hero was Kevin Bacon.
Fast forward to 2010 and you have the remakes release date.
Footloose, yes that campy hit of the 80s, is being redone and this time the star is, are you ready for this, Zac Efron of High School Musical Fame. Whats going to happen this time? Hip hop is outlawed and there is no public dancing? Apparently Zac is cashing in while he can because if he ever stood a chance of being considered a serious adult actor he is ignoring that chance by continuing to take these teeny bopper roles. At 21 he is at the perfect age to start taking on adult roles.
The 80s made a name for themselves, releasing good movies even if they were campy at times. We could see ourselves as certain characters in each of the films and many of them are in our video libraries to this day. Horror had its impact creating characters such as Freddy and Jason. Sadly, "New" isnt in Hollywoods vocabulary. Whats next? Sixteen Candles? Manequin? Teen Wolf? Can Holly wood get off the remakes and quit being scared to try out new ideas from a multitude of talented writers? I sure hope so, because entertainment is starving for something original.
