"WHY I LOVE WRESTLING"
By Chandler

Wrestling is SO much fun. This is my second year and I really like it. Last year I won two trophies, one is almost 2 feet tall! Last year it took me a little while to get the hang of things. This year after the second practice the coaches moved me up to the advanced class. So now I am having practice for 2 hours at a time instead of just an hour.
I think I get better and stronger at each practice. Practice always makes you get better and it helps a lot. I can even wrestle in practice with kids that are way bigger than me. Last practice I wrestled a kid that weighs 85 pounds and I only weigh 56 pounds.
I have to do my best no matter what and can't quit either. Wrestling is fun, hard and good exercise. I am very tired after practice but I really enjoy it. Wrestling helps make you stronger and it teaches you a lesson.

Good luck!
Congratulations on your win Bridget!!

1) I've been wondering if we're making it clear enough to kids why they go to school and what it's supposed to be about. It's not clear evidently to a large bunch of the public school population, IMO. This maybe even applies to the teaching staff and principals, so hassled with administration and discipline. I see preschool is gaining traction, in spite of our governor's nix on funding it for now. I'd like to see it spelled out very clearly in a rap with the kids from day one at preschool and/or kindergarten when they are getting oriented and calmed down: that school is for learning, it's their job, just like everybody else has a job. That means 1) listening to teachers, 2) paying attn, trying to understand and 3) asking questions if they don't. School is supposed to be interesting and fun, but listening and learning is the most important thing about school. This means after school too, when they're home; talking about lessons with mom, dad or anybody. It shouldn't be just in one ear and forget about it, let's go watch TV, playing our video games-- anything else but school. What school is supposed to be about should be reinforced throughout the school years, it seems too easily forgotten: School is about listening, learning, trying to understand. It's not only about hanging out with friends, playing cards, looking cool, hair, clothes, and all the rest. Do you agree? Any feedback would be welcome, if it's not too much to expect.
2) Tired of nagging "Go clean your room?" Try this: At the family meeting you make it clear that it's your house and your rooms that you let them use. So it's not '"Go clean your room" but "Pls go clear up my room that I let you use". Consequences of not cooperating: giving up something they really like. Everybody has family meetings right? Where everybody gets to tell what's on their minds, good and bad.
3) Does everybody who's planning to get a supersized flatscreen TV know that they use as much energy as a fridge and they'll be supersizing their electric bills? If viewing is cut back, that's a plus, IMO. If too much TV viewing is a problem, the deal is homework first, with parental monitoring before TV. Chores can also be part of the deal.
Hope this is helpful. Aloha,
