Come on America. Can't you see what's going on? Every four years, the republicans visit the label bag and pick one of the following: liberal, socialist, elitist, left winger, communist, and any combinatation of those. This year, they expanded with a new label: Celebrity. Meaning what exactly? They did not know. It does not matter. Distract and buy time. Let's be honest here. It was working. Might still work.
Usually the GOP picks one or two and sticks with it all the way. The McCain camp lacked the discipline to do so and Obama had enough money to run ads and get his message out to shake off these labels. The labels usually get traction for one or two weeks, then fall short. We are 7 days away and they have been on a new label. Well timed, I might add, the new label is SOCIALIST.
Can Obama shake it off quickly? He is getting help from the republicans. Palin's $150,000 clothes, Ted Stevens felony conviction, and McCain/Palin camps fighting each other over who to blame have kept them off message. Still, they will get as much mileage as they can with their label. Early voting is messing things up to. People in critical states have been voting for weeks while scandals are coming off their team. Poor McCain, can't get a break. First Powell, then Sarah's shopping spree, then Stevens, then Sarah again.
The way the republican party has been evolving, it will come to no one's surprise when the next 'negative' label is "EDUCATED." With candidates like Sarah Palin emerging, I have my money on education to be seen by the base as a negative thing. Something every American should run away from. Instead, dropping out of high school or limping to the finish line to get an under graduate degree will be more than enough. Anyone pursuing a graduate degree shall be declared UNFIT for the presidency.

Phew.
It is their own ads that have driven me away from the McCain campaign.
Much of it does not make sense. They talk about his pastor of 20 years and talk about him being a Muslim. I've asked one person who to reconcile those two, she obviously had no answer. They just say stuff, they don't really think about it or are actually incapable of thinking about it.
What lame excuse will you party followers come up with next when its tome to start the next crony socialist Bush/McCain bailout?
Of course the image of an angry black man is taken to mean "bitter"
Funny but it seems to me that McLame and his Posse are the extreme bitter ones here.
Can they stomach a black man as prez?
This campaign sure left them bitter.
Listen to them, stewing in their own hatred.
OBAMA~BIDEN '08
Yeah, they really don't know what Socialism means. However they understand it is a pejorative term but they could not define it. The only thing they could relate to socialism is Cuba if that.
John McCain is a true American hero with a leadership background. He is a fighter who plans to do away with excess spending. He's paid his dues. In a time of economic and war at large, don't you people realize that this country needs someone with "experience?"
Furthermore, Sarah Palin has been the governor of the largest state in the U.S. and with a billion dollar, etc. budget and many people under her. Palin's approval rate in her state is around 90 percent, and she's fought corruption. She stands for good values, as does McCain. I can't believe the personal attacks against her. Instead of sticking to the issues, she's called nasty names, made fun of, criticized for everything to her family, her hair, her wardrobe (which incidently, is being donated to charity). I even read that someone compared her looks to a "porn star" when she was on a national TV show. This is a disgrace and people should be ashamed of themselves. Does anyone every criticize Joe Biden's suits? In fact, Joe Biden and all his vocal mishaps, gets a pass, as does Obama.
And Joe Biden once mentioned that we don't need an intern in the white house.
I canvassed for McCain, handing out literature only to Republicans and Non-Partism people, and a man called me a "bitch," gave me the finger and said my party was ruining this country. A sign was also stolen from my yard and a nasty note left. What is happening to people. Why are they so full of hatred?
I think this whole election is extremely unfair. Some of you may be angry at my words, but I speak what I believe to be true. Do a little research and you just may agree with me.
You are giving in to rumors. Obama's school records are well known, plenty of fellow students from Indonesia to Hawaii to LA to Columbia talk about him. He was editor/director of the Harvard Law Review for a reason.
The McCain camp doesn't deal with smears. I will grant the Palin camp does - the ugly rumors about Trig being her grandson and not her son.
However, the rumors about Obama are in a whole other category --- anti-Christ, devil, Muslim, socialist, communist etc etc. On the Sean Hannity show, the Jerome Corsy guy who wrote Obama Nation said Obama has been trained to overthrow the government, and Hannity didn't even question it.
It is fear and smear - plain and simple. We all have a life to live - it would be on my conscience to say and believe ill of someone when there is no back-up for it. Instead, what there is a sad and sordid history of fearing and smearing people unlike us.
Get this: my neighbor's 5 year old told my wife and I that if Obama wins, the terrorists are going to get all of us, and that Obama is the devil.
On taxes, Joe the Plumber's fictional $280,000 small business gets a reduction of $600 under Obama's plan and $1,200 under McCain's plan - 98% of small businesses get a reduction under Obama's plan, so says the Tax Policy Center.

Obama in temperament, pragmatism, intellect, and people skills has all the makings of a great president.
In a New Yorker interview before her selection as VP nominee Sarah Palin said of Alaska, "we're set up, unlike other states in the union, where it's collectively Alaskans who own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs."
Got that? Share in the wealth, or "spread the wealth around." rest of the story
You have voted for the Republicans twice in succession. Eight years is too long to say you are helpless in preventing what was to come. You ( the Repubs represented by Bush) knew what was happening. You knew it was improper, that it was detrimental to the economy. Only you could not foresee the magnitude. You lacked that knowledge. Perhaps even the seasoned economists either they lacked the knowledge or remained complacent to a fault.
You have tried the Republicans for eight long years. Where is the country's economy now? In what a miserable state the common people are today. They say the worse is yet to come. The government has to do something, we think. But we people too have a role to play. Choosing the right government to the best of your knowledge. The sensible thing to do now, it seems to me, is to try the Democrats. To me, Obama seems to be talking more sense than McCain. So, my dear American brothers and sisters put on your best thinking cap and try to vote sensibly. Everybody must vote. To cast your vote is your duty for the sake of your country.
CRIPES, how far back does this need to go?
The answer for the Republicans is always far enough back to
find anything to spin negatively.
By the way, for a year before George W. Bush ran for President
they had people out pulling up records and sanitizing his past.
The less Obama lets out the less energy he has to expend
explaining away misinterpretations of stuff that was 30 years
ago. And even when he does it just get repeated over and over
anyway.
I'm with the guy from India ... Obama is the only sensible choice.
Unfortunately you make too much sense. Politics is not not that straight forward in America. We've had the republicans for 8 years and here we are. You would think people would look for a different direction. Hopefully 50+% of us translating to 270 electoral votes (as you might not popular vote does not really mean much here) will look for something different.
We need more leaders like that. A degree in commonsense is all you need.
Seems to me that even with that argument, Obama is the one who wins.
As for the interviews you say you have seen, WAB RIF, I've seen some pretty idiotic ones of people voting for McCain. All it does is prove that there are fools on both sides. But most of us; in fact, the MAJORITY of us are making an informed decision, and the rest of you will have to deal with it just like we have dealt with being the unrepresented for the past eight years.
The negotiation centered around blocking all 527s, limit cash for both RNC and DNC then go for public money.
Obama had shut down fundraising for Progressive Media USA, which aspired to be a major anti-McCain media voice, McCain had sent no such clear signal to GOP 527s.
Those are facts but people like you don't care. Who cares? You are being pwned anyways. Keep whining.
I agree, I do not care if Obama is African-American or Arab-American (as some article claim regarding his ancestry). But, I DO care about his ideas and his plans for our rights, freedoms, and Constitution.
He may have studied Constitutional Law, but that does NOT make him a Constitutionalist. In fact, nothing he's said indicates he even recognizes it.
I really care about his mentors during his formative years that drive his paradigm today. His speeches tell the truth, if you listen for it instead of what you WANT to hear.
Obama Affinity to Marxists Dates Back to College Days
Barack Obama shrugs off charges of socialism, but noted in his own memoir that he carefully chose Marxist professors as friends in college.
German philosopher Karl Marx, author of "The Communist Manifesto," advocated redistributing wealth in order to achieve a classless society.
But Obama himself acknowledges that he was drawn to socialists and even Marxists as a college student. He continued to associate with Marxists later in life, even choosing to launch his political career in the living room of a self-described Marxist, William Ayers, in 1995, when Obama was 34.
Obama's affinity for Marxists began when he attended Occidental College in Los Angeles.

Excellent article! The hanging on of labels seems to be a common distraction employed by the right wing. If Obama could dance as well as the quickly changing terms imply, he would be better than Baryshnikov! It is good to see that the Democratic candidate has the money to actually correct and beat back some of these pejorative labels!
Wab,
I am tired of listening to people like you complaining about race. Maybe your the one who's voting color. I like many others are voting for Obama because we don't need four years of the last eight years.
Obama/Biden 08
Now that Obama has collected a record purse for his campaign, can we finally dismiss the McCain/Feingold campaign finance law as a fraud? So much for the theory that regulation is always a magic silver bullet solution. Fly- over people, especially CheeseHeads need to wake up. Wisconsinites have such a third world loyalty to Senators Herb Kohl and Russ Feingold such as to make Robert Mugabe blush. Yet again, Feingold was unable to deliver a 20 billion dollar military Humvee contract to Wisconsin based Oshkosh Truck. In fact, Feingold brags about how little pork he delivers. Apparently it isn’t his job in jeopardy. Contrast that with the more sophisticated voters in Obama’s home state of Illinois, they would vote for Dan Rostenkowski because he advertised that he would bring home the pork. Wisconsinites and other voters need to stop being naive and start voting for their own special interests. Since we are rejecting the notion of limited government with the election of Obama, the only sane alternative is to vote for self interests at America’s expense. “The Nice Finish Last” is a cliché that has survived because it is true and also the reason the coastal elite joke about the simplicity of fly-over people. They want you to believe that Obama is not beholden to Acorn or any number of large contributors. McCain is too naive to be president and Obama is already bought and paid for.
You just can't say I voted for a socialist measure because I had to and turn around and scream SOCIALIST at the other guy. Look at McCain's record. Campaign finance - that's socialism. Voting against Bush cuts.
Folks, McCain is no conservative. You have two socialists here. Go with the one who has studied socialism his entire life and understands the dangers of it and how to marry it with capitalism. That's Obama.
Obama 08!!!
Let's go to the drawing board and fix the conservative movement. We need to take time off. Look at the country. After 8 years under a republican. I am ashamed. I voted for the moron twice. Not a third time for continuation. Then I would be the moron.
