Yes. There are positive and negative benefits. More underhanded things can now be instantly exposed and passed along online and a ton of misinformation can also spread like wildfire.
A. Yes! The media love of Obama and its unwillingness to ask him hard questions, especially during the primary, greatly influenced his ability to raise money and the outcome. While I believe the media was sensitive to racial isuses this time around, I believe they were tremedously sexist and the personal attacks on Hillary Clinton hurt her, while the attacks on Sarah Palin are blatant and bizarre. You would never know that she is a governor, the media portrays her as either a gun totting rube or a spacey suburban housewife. Biden on the other hand is making many mistakes and saying things that contradict his candidaten and the media completely ignores him. I am also distraught at the way age is protrayed in our youth loving media. McCain is called old and scattered, what ever happened to sage or experienced or wise. Life experperience is a negative accoridng to the mainstream media. Finally, the biases including putting a halo on Obama's magazine cover and doctoring McCain's image to make him look meaner, are insults to journalism, or maybe true impartial journalism is truly dead. We all have to be O'Reilly or Oberman to fit in.
Yes I do. I don't mean this to put anyone down but there are alot of uneducated people that don't want to do a little fat finding on their own so the go by what the biased media says.
I loved it last night on TV (CBS) when they showed McCain giving a speech about how Obama said this and what it meant and then CBS showed the tape of the interview McCain was quoting and it was very evident the words out of McCain's mouth were twisted to mean something that had not been intended by Obama.
yes..in the way that I can seek out a wider range of opinions.... no..in the way that alot of discussion still ends up on the " bar room floor"
what I think I found most interesting, this go around, was re reading my own thoughts and statements....and statements of others that I agreed with....or dis agreed.... amassing my own "important issues" and how that helped me determine what I was looking for...really suprised me actually....
The media is less relevant than ever. Youtube and blogs have changed the election. Traditional media is so slow. Who waits until the next day to read it on paper? Who waits for the evening news.
