My husband, two kids and I went to dinner at Applebee's tonight.
The place was packed as usual.
Our food had just come when a man, woman and two kids walked in. Both the man and the woman were white and the kids were very light skinned black. They both refered to the woman as Mom.
There was an older couple sitting behind us and the husband must have made some comment to the wife about the kids being of mixed race because I heard her say, "You could be looking at a future president of the United States" in a not too pleasant tone to her partner/husband. I didn't hear him say another word after that.
I wanted to go hug her and slap him.
Love him or hate him Obama has made an impact in this country.

I'm beginning to turn prejudice against hispanics and blacks in particular. I don't think its fair that racial issues have arised and the minority are treated like Queens and Kings, when it comes to assistance, but yet, a white is shoved out the door of the WIC office, having to have another appointment scheduled (have had it happen when my baby needed formula, the lady said, Can I help you?) and took the hispanic and blacks over myself and said "Do you have an ID?" They didn't have one, but was still accepted and it was waived.... now, this isn't right.
Who will I vote for?
OBAMA.... But, not because he is black, solely because of his beliefs. I dislike the fact he is black and running for President and I think he would help blacks over whites, but by going what he is saying, he is suppose to help "low income" in general, so I can't really twist he words. I just try to take it like it is, but keep in mind, just because you're prejudice, doesn't mean you won't talk to a black, be friends with a black and so forth. It depends where the line goes.
Michelle you are entitled to your opinion but I just hope you take each person for what they personally are and not group them together.
Joanna yes they are....colorblind politics gotta love it.
David you are the perfect example of why NOT to be prejudice. You are intelligent, informed, and have a beautiful spirit. And you are hispanic. I look at the first three qualities I listed about you and dont worry about the last.
BTW I think he will win I just dont want to count my chickens before they hatch.
Lynn spot on. Obama is getting my vote not for his color but for him and he is getting my husbands vote and my sisters vote and all the people that I work with vote....
Cheryl me too.
Lisa you are a good one.
OBAMA~BIDEN '08
Yes he has made an impact in this country. The regrettable part of the impact is the harsh reminder of the bigotry that many Americans harbor. But still...the fact that a Black man has been embraced by so many...even those who differ with his political agenda, is an event some of us never thought we would live to see.
This historical significance of this presidential election is hard to express in words. We are witness to one of the most important occasions in many, many years. Even the distractions of the racist protesters is drowned by the weight of this turning point of racial prejudices.
I've already voted for Obama/Biden. I know he will inspire people of all backgrounds to unite and make the US better for all.
Your restaurant example is the perfect example of all the quiet prejudice that exists. I know people deny it but it's still here in 2008.
I love what Obama has done for my family, for my kids. Just this afternoon my six-year-old told my husband and I. Look Obama is the same color as I am and he has the same color hair just like me. It is great to see my son have a role model, and especially one of this character.
That mom in the restaurant was great! You should have hugged her!
betcha,
Lori!
That’s
exactly
what
I believe, too.

Soon will be YOUR accounting.
Now for the really important question: What did you order to eat? :)
Michelle - You are misinformed.
I'm with you on the music, Sharon.
As far as Obama's impact? You are correct, of course. Nothing shall ever be the same, not ever again. The dinosaurs who believe otherwise are in for a rude awakening. This little genie is out of the bottle, for good!
IF my adopted state grows a brain and goes for OBAMA next Tuesday I will STOP calling it FLORI-DUH.
If anyone knew how many thousands of times I have said or written FLORI-DUH since COUP2K they would known what a monumental step that would be! LOL
The young women in the booth behind us were turning their noses up at a gross ad they saw depicting partial birth abortion. In the booth in front of us, a middle-aged woman was telling her elderly father that all of the attack ads were merely a tactic by McCain to spread fear and hate.
My husband and I remarked at how everyone, everyplace we go, is engaged in this election, and that is a good thing. After finishing up our healthy choice meals, we left an Obama button with the tip.

‘E’ Minus 6 Days — Loose Ends
Today’s Thoughtful Reminder:
DEALING WITH REDS

N-E-V-E-R.
We've decided we're leaving.
We intend to form our own country,
and we're taking the other Blue States with us.
In case you aren't aware, that includes California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and all the Northeast. We believe this split will be beneficial to the nation, and especially to the people of the new country of New California.
To sum up briefly: You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states. We get stem cell research and the best beaches. We get the Statue of Liberty. You get Dollywood. We get Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom. We get Harvard. You get Ole' Miss. We get 85 percent of America's venture capital and entrepreneurs. You get Alabama. We get two-thirds of the tax revenue, you get to make the red states pay their fair share.
Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22 percent lower than the Christian Coalition's, we get a bunch of happy families. Please be aware that Nuevo California will be pro-choice and anti-war, and we're going to want all our citizens back from Iraq at once. If you need people to fight, ask your evangelicals.
With the Blue States in hand, we will have firm control of 80 percent of the country's fresh water, more than 90 percent of the pineapple and lettuce, 92 percent of the nation's fresh fruit, 95 percent of America's quality wines (you can serve French wines at state dinners) 90 percent of all cheese, 90 percent of the high tech industry, most of the U.S. low-sulfur coal, all living redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools plus Stanford, Cal Tech and MIT.
With the Red States, on the other hand, you will have to cope with 88 percent of all obese Americans (and their projected health care costs), 92 percent of all U.S. mosquitoes, nearly 100 percent of the tornadoes, 90 percent of the hurricanes, 99 percent of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100 percent of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia. We get Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you.
Additionally, 38 percent of those in the Red states believe Jonah was actually swallowed by a whale, 62 percent believe life is sacred unless we're discussing the death penalty or gun laws, 44 percent say that evolution is only a theory, 53 percent that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and 61 percent of you crazy bastards believe you are people with higher morals then we lefties.
Finally, we're taking the good pot, too. You can have that dirt weed they grow in Mexico
Peace out,
Blue States
