I called the local supermarket to ask how much unfrosted cupcakes would cost by the dozen. For those who don't have a clue what I'm talking about, I got asked to provide 36-48 unfrosted cupcakes for Gilly's class party on Friday- 24 for the kids, and 12-24 more for the adults & teacher (though, I highly doubt 2 dozen adults will be helping out with the party, but I could be wrong). That's a daunting task, baking that many cupcakes! And how the bloody hell was I supposed to transport them? I don't have enough containers for 48 cupcakes! It would have taken me around 4 hours to bake them all, too. Ugh! Cake mix, eggs, oil- it was going to cost around $8-10 just to buy the supplies, and a lot of time.
So I called the local supermarket, and was told the price is the same frosted or unfrosted- $5.99/dozen. Ouch. Then, she added that this week, they ARE buy 1 get 1 free. That's $11.98 for 4 dozen unfrosted cupcakes! I have to go ahead and order them, though, so I can pick up unfrosted cupcakes, since they don't just keep them on hand.
I'm thinking I'll grab 2 dozen unfrosted, and 2 dozen frosted cupcakes, so the adults don't have to try and frost them ourselves.
I will still need to pick up frosting for the other 2 dozen, though, and some candy corns to use for decorating them. But, overall, not bad! And I don't have to slave away for multiple hours during an already busy week, with kids asking why they can't have any.

Heather, I'll send em in the mail. ;)
When the kids were little and I could eat cupcakes (gluten intolerant).
I always was the mom who broght the decorated cookies or cupcakes in. I really enjoyed it then. It's a great idea to have the kids decorate their own.
The mom in charge of Gilly's class party called, and when I asked what to bring, she said she didn't have any ideas. So, I asked what others were bringing, still, no ideas. Finally, I started offering suggestions on what all we could do to fill the time, and -that- is what she called back for me to do. I don't mind, but I am glad that I don't have to actually make them now. Our oven is wonky, anything put on the bottom rack bakes a LOT faster and hotter than it should, so we have to limit baking to the top rack only (it doesn't seem to matter how high we move the bottom shelf, or even if we wait 5-10 minutes after the top shelf is loaded to load it- everything gets burnt), so that would have slowed us down as well.
