I just heard from someone that we are no longer getting points for commenting on photos. Can anyone confirm this? I am working hard to get my photos into albums. Is this a wasted effort? Thanks for any information you can give me...
I have no idea if they have changed or not, I'm still commenting, I can't imagine that it will change that much, maybe less, I hope its not changed, because I have a lot of photos to upload
I have not heard of it being confirmed but I have been leaving comments on photos since September 6th, 2008 and got really good points for doing so. I have not received one point for commenting on photos for the last three days now, though, since the upgrade. I am glad you made this discussion to see if anyone else is experiencing this too. I have written Gather, but no response from them yet. I am commenting on photos only right now before leaving comments on posts other than this one to see if Gather will finally give me some points for commenting on photos again. I hope someone can answer this for us.
I just checked the help section there was no information on there about comments for photos not getting point unless they chaged it and have not updated it, so needless to say I would think it still happens, I poured over the help and FAQ's and they encouraged uploading and commenting on photos for points...

My points haven't changed for three days or better. And they were really SLOW to begin with. If they've tightened up the points again, I'll NEVER get another gift card.
The overall points in general have slowed since the upgrade, so it's impossible to say if it's just photo comments, or what. Every once in a while, the site seems to change what earns points best, and usually, after an upgrade, points slow down.
I have seen the points come to a screeching halt for comments on photos. I have commented on photos (only) other than this post and maybe a couple of others, for three days now and no points have been added.
Kevin explained point's and how you receive them in a post awhile back. He said, you do not get point's for commenting on post's or picture's. Only for viewing them. If you comment then other's will see your name and will maybe check your page out, ect. Same with ping's. No point's ,but other's may find an interest in you.
Cindy, I read Kevin's explanation. However, the exact formula remains a secret. If people are doing what they were doing prior to the upgrade they would be earning approximately the same number of points. However, I see many comments about the points slowing down which would lead me to believe the fornula has been revised.
I am still finding my way around here so can't compare past with present but I try to read as much as I can and interact when I can. It would make so much more sense to have the RATING area at the BOTTOM of the article itself so you don't have to backtrack to the TOP of the page to rate. Since I can get back to "MY GATHER' from the link under the SUBMIT button I sometimes forget to go back and rate the article.
I think they just like to keep us on our toes ;) I do know that viewing the slide shows doesn't increase points but haven't heard whats up with photos..Haven't viewed many myself
I haven't noticed anything in regard to the points but their mail system is STILL all screwed up!! I'm supposed to be receiving notifications when my connections write an article or post a photo...only 5-6 come through a day.
My points haven't slowed noticeably. Someone above commented that you really are getting points for page views, not for comments. I leave comments because a) it's the nice thing to do when you appreciate someone's work and b) how else will the person know I've been by? :)
I used to get points for commenting on photos daily. I never made any posts myself so nothing has changed. I commented on photos only and got points for it. Now, it is all changed since the upgrade and I do not get one point for commenting on photos at all. Something has definitely changed or been altered here.
I'm not sure. All I know is I keep getting messages from certain groups, though I've turned off the email correspondence for all of them. My email box keeps overflowing and I'm going to have to let them know. I also had problems posting for the first couple of days. We'll have to keep watching...

You don't get points for commenting, just for page views, it doesn't matter what you are viewing, photos or post. If you don't comment though no one is going to visit your posts:) Let's hope the glitches are fixed soon. I only received six notifications this morning when I usually have hundreds.
I doubt they would change something that major, especially without announcing it. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I think the points are all just slow lately.
I HOPE the points are just slow temporarily -- I've just started posting stuff and doing things in the last week with gather, and haven't seen my points move at all??
Ok, here is what I did. For less than 2 hours I went through a couple of peoples pictures & only rated them & clicked the next button. In that time I also received maybe 5 comments on my own content. I earned $1.00. So I guess if a person sticks to a plan, they can earn the money.
No one really knows what you get points for or how many. I personally think it changes from time to time. More points for this at a given time and less for other things at another given time. The vast majority of the time all I do is comment, especially of late because of the upgrade and all the problems I have read people are having. Most of my points have been earned when only commenting. With all the glitches, its any wonder the points for many have been crawling. Alot of people have been having trouble getting photos uploaded, or post and comments are disappearing. It's like trying to do a job with substandard equipment. How can anyone get anywhere when things aren't working right? We need to see if the kinks get worked out then see where the points are moving or not. At least thats my take.
That's usually what I do is post pictures and I get points when people view, comment or rate them. Also I get points for viewing, rating and commenting on theirs. Hope that helps.
I just hope this is not true. I think people would stop commenting or even veiwng pictures if that was the case. I know I commented on alot earlier today.
