This list was put together by ForeignPolicy.com in a post called "If the World Could Vote." The top 10 for each candidate represents those nations that had the highest support for a particular candidate. First, the top 10 pro-Obama countries.
- Kenya
- Uganda
- Ethiopia
- Tanzania
- Mauritania
- Netherlands
- Denmark
- France
- Norway
- Belgium
I found the number of African nations interesting. Just FYI, the Netherlands and Denmark are two of the NATO countries participating in the heaviest fighting in Afghanistan, alongside Great Britain, Canada, and the United States. The French public is very anti-Bush, even though French president Nicolas Sarkozy has improved relations with America since he succeeded former president Jacques Chirac.
Next, the top 10 pro-McCain countries.
- Georgia
- Philippines
- Cambodia
- Laos
- Lithuania
- Pakistan
- India
- Estonia
- Latvia
- El Salvador
Georgia is facing a resurgent Russia and a spill-over of terrorist activity from Chechnya, and has a strong counterterror alliance with the United States. Additionally, Georgia had troops in Iraq alongside U.S. forces until Tbilisi pulled them back after hostilities erupted with Russia. The Philippines are also dealing with a terrorist threat and playing host to U.S. Special Forces advisers as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. El Salvador is the only Latin American country with troops in Iraq, Pakistan is fighting a significant terrorist threat, and India has long been a key Washington ally.
Countries that think the winner of the presidential election will make a difference: South Korea, the United Kingdom, France, Ireland, Australia, Canada, Norway, Sierra Leone, Poland, and Denmark.
Countries that think the winner of the presidential election will make no difference at all: Palestine, Estonia, Kuwait, Burundi, Chile, Saudi Arabia, Austria, Lebanon, Peru, and Pakistan.
