Many of you have asked me what Pit Bull Awareness day is all about and why it is necessary.
First of all, pit bull advocates such as myself and my family, are celebrating the day and using it to raise awareness and educate people on what great dogs pit bulls truly are. We strive to raise positive images of these dogs, today and every day. All too often, sensationalized media reports portray pit bulls as the breed of choice for criminals and gang bangers. I intend to show that most pit bull owners are people just like me.
It is also for those of us who are anti-breed specific legislation to discuss where we need to combine our efforts. It is also for drawing attention to resources that are out there for those who want to educate themselves on what BSL is and why every dog owner needs to be concerned, not just those of us with bully breeds and other maligned breeds such dobermans and rottweillers.

All that my pitties ever ask for is to:
Go on a hike every now and again.

Have wrestling matches with Cal and with each other.

Hang out with mom while she Gathers:

Take a nice walk every evening.

And snuggle with dad where ever they can find room.

A pit bull doesn't ask for much from anyone. They give so much and ask for so little. But isn't that one of the best things about a dog, regardless of the breed?

Train your dogs. Train them. Did I mention training yet? One of my neighbors was so proud of her new golden retriever puppy. I gave her information on available training classes. "No thanks. We've decided to wait until he has calmed down in about 2 or 3 years before we attempt training." I offered to help in the training, I say to bring the dog over to my yard and he can play with my goldens. About 4 months ago I found out that they brought the dog to the animal shelter because he was giving them "the eye". Of course, if you are a golden retriever and kept mostly in a cage, never walked, never allowed to be with your pack (people), how can you blame the dog? Guess what? They have a new puppy.
Can we euthanize people?
And a heartfelt thank you to ALL of you!
Hey, thanks for the heads up on Awareness Day. Great article and cute pics; and give the doo-gies each a hug from me.... ;-)
Take care.
Cathi, those silly people. The dogs need training when they are young...or any time. But there should never be a reason to put it off.
I do have a question Shannon - why do people crop their ears?
You made my day, Nora. Just remember that most pit bulls are like mine, happy and well adjusted. The ones you see on the news are NOT representative of the breed.
Lynn, you can see Matt sleeping sideways in that pic. That's the only spot he could find I guess!
Robi, come back later when you can learn to play right.
P., they do it for various reasons. Some do it for fighting purposes, so the ears aren't torn off or mangled. And some dumbasses do it because they think it makes them look meaner and scarier. And I will tell you I know that is one of the main reasons people are occasionally leery around ours. It's that whole persona.
We get asked that question a lot.
Is this a new fad? I've never seen people with cropped ears! LOL!
Thanks all!
