Are Gather "payments" taxable income?

yes, anything over $600 is taxable, giftcards or pay pal payments..

All income must be reported when you file your taxes. That includes gift cards, payments from Gather, lottery winnings, etc.

Yes, Heather is right, all income has to be reported. I used to think that you didn't have to report it if you made under a certain amount. Gather doesn't have to give you a 1099 if you make under $600, though.

It's possible that you won't have to pay taxes if it's under a certain amount, but you still have to report it.

But, you know, if you made an honest mistake or didn't know any better and didn't report a small amount of income, I wouldn't worry about it. The IRS doesn't really make a huge effort going after things like that. But, if they audit you and they find out about it, they can charge your penalities. But, if it's only a few hundred dollars you didn't report, the penalities usually aren't back-breaking for most people.

Over $600 and you should have to fill out the 1099. I had to fill in my info at other sites when I reached that limit.

Hmmm...shoot. I've never tracked that stuff. Didn't even think about it because I thought if it was under $600 it wasn't necessary and I've never reached that amount before. Ugh. OK thanks.

Yes, it's taxable. Yes, you are supposed to report all this type income. Gather doesn't need to send you a form until you've made over $600, but you are supposed to report whatever income you made regardless.
I'd be willing to bet that only about 1% of is do. I'm too paranoid not to report everything. Or you might say "anal."

I wouldn't worry too much about it Renita if the amount is small. Next year, you can collect and keep track of everything. Also, Paypal keeps great records, so you can track everything there if you get paid that way.
