Anyone out there have an insulin pump?

I have never heard of one. I'm not diabetic but we have a diabetic cat. Believe it or not - he will lay down every night for me to give him the shot. I don't even have to hold him anymore.

I had a chance to get the pump and turned it down. Now that I'm exercising and watching my diet and sugar intake more, there are times I don't even need an injection...compared to four shots a day when I first started back in March. It's very easy to give shots. Fill the syringe with the amount of air that the injection calls for (10 units of insulin...fill the syringe with 10 units of air). Stick the needle in the bottle of insulin and inject the air. Turn the bottle upside down and fill the syringe with the amount of insulin called for (10 units if you pump 10 units of air into the bottle). Make sure there are no air bubbles inside the body of the syringe. (If there are, tap the body of the syringe with your finger to raise the bubbles to the top and squirt a tiny bit to shoot the bubbles out.) I inject into my stomach rather than my arms, legs or rump. Wipe the site with an alcohol swab. Stick the needle into the stomach and inject. Actually, 9 times out of 10, I don't even feel the needle. Drawing a drop of blood to test before injecting hurts a lot more than the shot itself.

Never had the need to use it (thankfully!). I would do my homework on this thing.

I've been a type 1 diabetic for more than 27 years and have been using an insulin pump for more than 8 years.
I love my pump and would never want to go back to shots. Some people don't like the idea of being attached to something 24/7 but I usually don't even notice it anymore. It is just a part of me. It's also made me a much healthier person.

There are different brands but they all do the basic stuff, deliver a round the clock small amount and a larger amount when you tell it to cover the food you eat.
This is not needle free. I have to use a needle to change the site it is attached to me every 3 days. I hope your mom realizes this.
Maybe you can help her look at the different kinds and see what she likes. The sizes and colors and functions are all a little different on all of them

Oh I forgot to add, the expense depends on your insurance coverage. Some of them cover 100% (my last insurance company did) but when my husband's work changed insurance it made it much more expensive to pump. The pump itself costs around 5-6000 dollars and then you have supplies that you have to get to be able to use it that you have to keep buying and keep buying.

I'm not diabetic, but my friends who are, swear by their pumps. They say it's like being given a huge set of freedoms back - no multiple finger sticks, you can deviate as much as *hours* from your regimented meal schedules, they all just adore them.

My niece, who has been diabetic since age 2, got a pump two years ago. She is now almost 18 and she loves it. It does give her much more freedom and less finger checks. She also has to change the site every few days and that does involve a needle but it is a whole lot better than the four injections she was taking every day.

I am a diabetic but I have never had to use the pump. I just take my Actos pill morning and night

when my son in law became diebetic we all learn how to do this,, he give himself the shot but jus in case....

I just take pills.Don't do shots at all.

I don't have to use insulin but I use twice a day Byetta shots. They are pretty much painless.

My son is diabetic, and I think he should look into a pump. His numbers are very brittle and I think the pump on a sliding scale would be great for him.
