VICE-PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE
This debate seems like it occurred eons ago, so please forgive me if I confuse what was with what is. The vice-presidential debate was predictable; Biden maintained his respect for the tender sex (even though she shoots moose before eating breakfast) and her memorized statements of McCain's virtues bored me.
According to the media, he fulfilled his high expectations. Expectations for Sarah were not high and she did quite well, which makes her ‘the winner.' She had spent the weekend on the McCain ranch, ostensibly resting. The debate would be a rare chance to see her in action (and when left to her own devices, she has been a disaster) so we can imagine all the prepping McCain drilled into her head.
I had heard bits of Biden's tragedy, but never the complete story. When she began extolling the hardships of working mothers, he interrupted and shared his story. He had been a working father. Tears filled my eyes as I listened to how his wife and child had died. Despite his pain, one or more of his children were alive and he had to handle work as well as the home front. Did Palin stop and offer ‘appropriate respect'? No way. She had been force-fed her talking agenda and continued regurgitating.
Since then, I have seen/heard: Biden at a rally where he stated, "There's a big difference between the Obama-Biden ticket and the McCain-Palin one. From the audience, someone shouted,"Brains!"
: Sarah Palin's husband used her office to have a man (who threatened Palin and her family) fired from his job. She vigorously defended her husband's actions but ignored the fact that he had used her office. This use was improper. Additionally, she has billed the Alaskan government for work done in her office, but on some of the days, she had remained at home.
This next issue is questionable. Many people were asked to comment on it, including Maria, wife of California's governor, Arnold. (I am unable to spell either last name.) Apparently, whenever Sarah travelled, she brought the fab five with her. (Her children) She billed the state of Alaska for their hotel rooms - $700+ per night - plus any other expenses incurred. Often the children had not been invited and occasionally Palin was needed for only a few hours. Thus, no reason for the big schlep.
: Have any women wistfully noticed how ‘together' the vice president -in-training looks? The media is in frenzy because the Republican Party spent more than $150,000.00 to outfit her and her family. The money was mostly spent at Saks 5th Avenue and $75,000.00 at Neiman Marcus. And $135.00 at The Gap. It is absurd for her to preach to Joe the plumber and others who are losing homes and jobs daily when she has just shopped in America's priciest stores. She assured everyone that after the election, her clothing would be donated to charity. Wouldn't it be more considerate to sell everything on E-Bay? That way, party donors could recoup some of their funds.
: Tina Fey of Saturday Night Live has been doing great Palin imitations on the show.
: One half of US families have accounts at The Bank of America - this is straight from the horse's mouth.
: Unfortunately, Obama's beloved grandmother is very ill and he's flying to Hawaii to see her. They are very close; she brought him up. He leaves shortly.
: Joe Biden's mother-in-law has died. He will be spending Monday and Tuesday with his family and not campaigning.
: Friday will be a day of reckoning. Sarah Palin and her husband will be deposed for misconduct.
: Last, but certainly not least, Colin Powell, a friend of McCain's, has been thoroughly impressed with Obama's inquiring intellect and his presidential demeanor. He is dismayed by McCain's lack of good judgment in choosing a running mate. Thus, he is voting for Obama.
Oh, I just remembered, wasn't I supposed to discuss the vice-presidential debate? I hope it was covered adequately for you all. Please remember that we live in the greatest country on earth. We have the freedom and privilege of being able to vote. With privilege comes responsibility. Be sure to exercise your right to vote. We share the luxury and the duty of voting in this enormously important election.
