The NEW changes on Gather

First off I have to say "PEOPLE QUIT WHINING"

Of course the site is SLOW

Of course pics are gone

Of course things are not working..

THATS WHAT HAPPENS AFTER AN UPGRADE! WAIT A FEW DAYS THEN YOU CAN BOMBARD THEM WITH EMAILS ABOUT YOUR PROBLEMS! I FEEL SO BAD FOR MARY ANNE RIGHT NOW. WENT TO READ THE ARTICLE UPDATE AND PEOPLE ARE JUST POURING OUT PROBLEMS LEFT AND RIGHT. VERY FEW COMMENTS SAID HOW NICE THE CHANGES ARE.

I THINK THE CHANGES ARE GREAT! AND WHEN THEY GET ALL THE QUIRKS FIXED THEN IT SHOULD RUN SMOOTHLY. GIVE THEM SOME TIME. YOU SHOULD ALL KNOW THINGS ARE NOT NORMAL THE FIRST FEW DAYS AFTER AN UPGRADE... GIVEM TIME TO FIX STUFF

LOL  OKAY I FEEL BETTER ABOUT THAT NOW. HOPE I DID NOT OFFEND ANYONE!

HAS ANYONE HEARD IF WE GET PAGE VIEWS FOR EACH PHOTO IF VIEWED DURING THE SLIDESHOW?  I WOULD THINK WE DO BUT IM NOT SURE.

ANYONE HEARD ANY OTHER NEWS ABOUT THE CHANGES.

I SEEN SOMONE HAD ASKED IF WE COULD COMMENT ON A WHOLE ALBUM RATHER THAN INDIVIDUAL PICTURES.. I AM NOT SURE IF THATS POSSIBLE.. I HAVE NOT NOTICED YET.. ANYONE KNOW?

 I WOULD SUGGEST COMMENT ON AT LEAST 1 OF THE PICTURES TO LET THEM KNOW YOU STOPPED BY IF YOU DONT YOU ARE MORE LIKELY TO HAVE PEOPLE SKIP YOUR ITEMS TO GO TO PEOPLE THEY KNOW HAVE BEEN TO THEIRS!

Good idea Tiffany. I think waiting is the best thing. I haven't looked at the changes yet but I intend to. Maybe I'll wait a little while before I do anything.

The site is fast now.. or it is here. The photos aren't gone. You need to clock Other photos. They will show up there. :)

As for the update LOVE it.

Here is a little of what I know...

Slide shows do NOT count as a page view. You must view each photo individually (just as we did before the update) in order for a page view to be registered for that photo.

You are not able to comment on an album at this time...only on the individual images within the album.

I do have to disagree with you though about updates. Updates should NOT bring about as many problems as Gather updates often (always) do. This clearly shows a lack of proper QA testing and forethought. Gather could avoid much of the angst in the community fairly easily if they chose to.

Hence, I think complaining is a GOOD thing because it might possibly lead to improvements and a smoother transition during the next< update (of course I say this every time and nothing changes).

I was looking at one of my pictures and when I finished i clicked on the previous button and it took me back to one of the first pictures I ever posted on gather.. would take me my pictures if i clicked on my photos though. If you post a bunch of photo's at once in to the album you can't comment on them until they are all in the album. I guess it says you have 7 or however many pictures you posted, they don't show up until you have commented on them all and posted them..

I noticed people are viewing slideshows and the page views are going way up quickly.. does that mean they are not generating points unless viewing individually even thopugh the picture shows another page view??

I dont think people complaining will make anything better! doing an upgrade like this takes work on their end and glicthes take place when any kind of change happens. I would understand if they did nto take care of the glicthes asap but they do!

I have viewed a ladys album of 16 pictures. they showed 3 views when I started and when I was finished it showed they now had 8 views. Im sure the people were viewing them via slideshow..


Larry I looked at your 7 photos but it showed them as posted indiviually and not in an album. Im not sure really what your asking though

Page views can go up for any number of reasons...and in some cases one person can cause multiple page views on the same photo (which has nothing to do with a slideshow). Therefore, they are not reliable. However, I am basing my statement above on what Gather has communicated publicly about page views for slide shows.

Also, many of the improvements Gather makes following an update are due solely to member complaints. If members didn't express their dislike for something these changes would never have been made.

I love the new tools too Tiffany. I was excited from the time I sat in on the preview. A lot of concerns you stated were asked during the session and I expect those that can be changed will, like commenting on the whole album. I like your idea of choosing at least a favorite photo and commenting on it so you know who viewed your album, this way you know who stopped by to view it. This is a good way to see which photo/photos where member's favorites.
Right now you get a page view for each photo opened from the album, not viewed in the slide show. I watch the slide show then go back to the page with all the photos shown individually by clicking on the album's name and choose the photos I want to comment on. I find this easier than clicking on each photo in the slide show and interrupting the slide show progress. The photos appear so much better in this new program also.

I'm sure I'll love them to eventually....if I can ever find out somehow prior to installing the plugin if it will interfere with another program I have running, it's quite touchy as somethings I can't download.

oh okay. Thanks Kevin for clearing that up for me.
I understand people complaining but its not necessary about every lil thing after an upgrade.. Things are always messed up after an upgrade and sending emails about the lil glicthes only slows them down. them complaints are not what gets us upgrades..

Site works fine for me with no slowness. Not sure what whining you're seeing. Maybe you're connected to the wrong people ;)

Some of the photos are gone. As I have alot more than I was allowed to move to an album. I think others are experiencing the same. As I had pages up on pages of photos.

I seen that thread started by Mary Anne. I also seen where she stopped allowing comments. I can see why.

So, far I like th new upgrade. Yes, I knwo there is glitches. But there always are with upgrades for the first week or so.

I think there needs to be a "previous and next" LINK above the pictures, instead of clicking on the thumbnails. I find the thumbnails very hard to see.

I had some problems at first when I was moving some of my old photos into albums, but once I got them moved, it all seemed to straighten out, so we'll see...

I think the albums are great.

Now, if I could just get my wish about grouping groups.......

I agree with you. Like any new upgrade it'll just take time to adjust. I think I'll have fun reorganizing my photos in albums. Maybe it will promote page views for items that have sat there a long while, not getting any attention. :)
