Let's Pretend...He's Raising Your Taxes
by Marilyn Mackenzie
Let's pretend...that instead of raising taxes for people making over $250,000, Obama decided to tax anyone making over....say.....$37,000. I just picked a number from my hat, but it's one that is lower than the average in most cities.
Let's pretend that your tax rate is going up to 55% (that's combined income tax and social security tax).
Let's pretend that you also live in an area where there are state and county income taxes as well, so you could end up paying as much as 63-70% of your income in taxes.
Ponder this for just a moment. Are you going to willingly and patriotically pay those taxes without any thoughts? Would you look for a way out, some kind of loopholes? Or would you maybe decide to vote for the guy who wants to cut government spending instead of raising taxes?
You know what the guy down the street is going to say? The one who only makes $18,000 and won't get that same increase? He's going to say.....you have more than enough and you can afford to pay the added tax.
How will his attitude make you feel? Would you like having your neighbor say, "Nanny nanny boo-boo, I don't have to pay more taxes but you do"???
Or would it bother you if he said, "Hey, buck up. Be a good citizen. Pay what you owe, because we all know you've been cheating on your taxes for years. It's about time you pay your way."
How would you feel if you knew that as many as 40% of the people in the country weren't going to be paying any taxes at all, but yours were going to be raised?
If your taxes went up that much, do you think it would affect how you lived? What money you spent?

I'm not sure anyone read the story I shared about when our power went out during hurricane Ike, so I'll try again.
Our whole neighborhood was without power for 100 hours. Well, except for one fellow who had a generator.
On the first day, people laughed and said what a smart neighbor the guy was to have a generator. Then they complained to each other about not being able to sleep at night.
As one day became the next, they started getting a bit angry at the guy for not sharing. They thought he should share because he didn't need all the power he was generating. Surely he could give up having his refrigerator run, if it meant lighing 4 or 5 neighbors. Surely that would be the right thing to do and he should do that willingly.
By the time the power company was there and fixing the power lines, one neighbor said, "It's a good thing they're putting on the power. By tomorrow we might have been storming that guy with the generator and making him share."
That, my friends is a true story. I hate to think what might have happened if we had been without power any longer.

Socialists believe that capitalism unfairly concentrates power and wealth among a small segment of society that controls capital, and creates an unequal society. All socialists advocate the creation of a society, in which wealth and power are distributed more evenly.
Doesn't this sound like what Obama wants? A distribution of wealth? That's socialism.

And the incident about the generator is a true story. People were jealous of the guy with the generator and were quite upset that he wasn't sharing.
should I say, suppose to pay, Because some people choose NOT to pay
taxes.
I know the more time my dh works, the smaller his paycheck.
and we are not rich, he brings home maybe 40k after taxes for
the yr.
If Obama defines being "rich" starting at 250K, well let's see
what was the Obama's net income for 2007? hum.....
If He is elected, will He have to pay more taxes and share
his wealth?
will Oprah? How about Bill Gates? how about all
of the people listed on the Forbes list?
come on people, we all know that Obama says one thing
and means another.
You do not have to be smart to figure that out.
I said yesterday I am done discussing politics here,
but this makes me sad to think 1000s of people
truly think under Obama the world will get better.
If you would only open your eyes and hearts.
You would know the truth.
We can all make believe, but at the end of the day, McCain wants to give massive tax breaks to the rich and Obama wants the rich to pay their fair share.
Obama is looking out for the poor and middle class. McCain wants to tax health care benefits.
These people - the so-called rich - already pay more taxes (percentage) than others.
The point is that we shouldn't be willing to let anyone tax any one group just because we don't belong to that group. Or because we think they can pay it.
Whatever happened to the Golden Rule?
On money you get if a loved one dies - being raised to 55%.
Self-employment tax will raise from 37.9% to 54.9%. This one will affect all Gather people who earn over $600 this year. This is being self-employed. Do you want that tax raised?
America’s 3.7 million Sub Chapter S corporations, which are small companies with less than 75 stock holders, are currently taxed at a rate of 35%. He's increasing the tax rated to 50.3%.
If you win the lottery - $1 million - you now pay 35%. Obama will increase that.
Did you know...
These are the top individual tax rates, which combine income and social security.
28% under President Reagan
38% under President Clinton
55% under would-be President Obama
60% under President Hoover
70% under Presidents Lyndon Johnson and Jimmy Carter
You think this is fair? How high would be too high? Do you realize that some states and local areas (counties/cities) also have income taxes? If you add those to Obama's 55%, what will the so-called rich be paying? And that's fair?????
According to the Tax Policy Center, Barack Obama’s tax plans would cost the U.S federal government nearly $900 billion in his first term, and increase the national debt by $3.3 trillion over ten years. Is that really the kind of change you want?
Some say Obama’s proposed increase in deductions for taxpayers would increase the number of those who don’t pay taxes closer to 40%. Do you agree with that?
And it was not fair to cut taxes for the rich to the point that it left the middle-class 'holding the bag'. Obama only wants to restore the fair balance.
of Welfare.
You can go on his site to see this.
I am not one who wants more tax increases.
WE pay enough as it is now.
that is common sense.
And Yes we do live in the real world and know
when someone wants the US to become
Socialist.
We need more people to step up and NOT vote
for someone who's whole life is based on lies.
If Obama wants to restore a fair balance, why isn't he for a flat tax?? Abolish the IRS and have everyone just pay a flat tax across the board. I'm sure there will be people who would dispute the flat tax as being unbalanced as well, but beats the alternative.
Marilyn,
Your hypothesis doesn't work very well because that is not how socialism works. People should not have to go bankrupt because of health related bills. People should not have to live in subsistence because their jobs are going overseas. Industry has been attacking the middle class for many years now. It started with the Reagan years. The Republicans ideas have been tried and they didn't work out. It's time to switch gears and see some relief for the middle class. This country needs to be restored to its greatness once again. It won't happen under a McCain presidency.

Doesn't this sound like what Obama wants? A redistribution of wealth? That's socialism.
Not only that, but if you're among the people who think this is right - taking money from businesses and so-called rich to give to people who don't even pay taxes (which should climb to 40% under Obam) - then doesn't that make you a socialist too?
Is that you?
In other words, is everyone deciding that they don't want capitalism anymore? Sure sounds like it.
Joe, a redistribution of wealth like Obama proposes is certainly socialism.

Marylyn, I'm surprised to see the above question, asked by you, concerning "FAIRNESS".
Were you not one of those on another article, I think it was called, What part of personal SUCCESS, in AMERICA, do you consider, NOT FAIR"?
Not sure, but I think you, and other McCain supporters arguements were centered on telling others, TOUGH LUCK, CAUSE LIFE'S NOT FAIR!!! (Of course I'm paraphrasing.)
So, I guess...now, with this in mind, I must inform you that "LIFE'S NOT FAIR"!!!
O.K.. We all know that life is not fair, but if it helps, I'll pretend your version of life is fair, if you'll pretend my version of life is fair.
You go first.
