It was a beautiful, clear and crisp fall day and a huge American flag was on the side of the WWI Memorial. I was at the Obama rally in Kansas City yesterday. There were 75,000 of us in downtown Kansas City. It was an incredible sight. I stood shoulder to shoulder with a black man and a white 30-something couple with two children in strollers. In front of me were white teenagers and behind me (other than my husband) were two white grandmothers in their 60's with Obama t-shirts on. Over my shoulder I could see a couple of white teenaged punk rockers and a few feet away was a veteran in a wheelchair with an Obama sign on the back.
Obama gave a rousing talk about his plans for this country and we all cheered. Even though we were all crowded together, everyone was cheerful and friendly. When people passed by, they said "excuse me".
We were all taking a stand together and were unified in our vision for this country, wanting more for it than what we had seen in the last eight years. I saw tears in the eyes of some people. They were hungry for change and the things that Obama stands for. I saw something else in the eyes of people standing around me. It was something that I have not seen much of in the last few weeks of talk about the economy and the financial woes on Wall Street and Main Street. It was hope.

Carla, it sounds like you had a wonderful time. I wish I could attend an Obama rally, I think it would inspire me even more.
But, Carla, it sounds just like what I've imagined. Thanks for sharing it with us!
