As it is the weekend, here are a few weekend Halloween themed crafts for the little ones.
1- Flower Pot Ghost
Supplies:
1 Terra Cotta Pot- any size
White Acrylic Paint
Black Acrylic Paint
Glow in the dark Acrylic Paint ***Optional
Paint Brushes
First, wash the pot off, and let it dry. Once it's dry, paint it white, including the bottom, and let it dry. A second coat may be necessary. Once it's coated with an even coat of white, and dried, use the black to paint a ghost face on it while the pot is upside down. You can add some details in glow in the dark paint if you want to add some- stars, underlining the face, streaks, whatever you wish to add!
2- Construction Paper Garland
Purple, Black, Orange, & White construction paper
Scissors
Yarn
Round Paper Punch (small, not the type used for big holes, but small holes)
White glue
Glitter- purples, blacks, silvers, golds, etc
Cut out white ghosts, black witch hats, orange pumpkins, and purple bats. Use the glue to make designs on them, and sprinkle with glitter. Once dried, punch 2 holes at the top, around 1/2 inch apart. String the yarn through both holes, leaving them about 4-6 inches apart. Hang with thumb tacks or tape!
3- Leaf Placemats
Supplies:
Wax Paper
Leaves collected from the yard- the more color, the better
An iron
Black duct tape
Collect the leaves from the yard, then lay them on the waxy side of wax paper, arranging them the way you like to fill the sheet- leave some gaps, and don't let them cover the edges of the paper. Lay another sheet over top of them, then put a single layer towel over top of it, and iron it. The heat from the iron will melt the wax together on the wax paper. Once it's cooled off, trim the placemat, and use black duct tape to edge the mat, so that it helps hold it together.
4- Stained glass pumpkin
Supplies:
Wax Paper
Orange, Black, Green & Yellow Crayons- if you are doing more than 1 or 2, you may need crayons from multiple boxes.
Carrot peeler OR a paring knife *ONLY with an adult using it for the knife!!
An iron
Round paper punch
Yarn
Use the knife or carrot peeler to create shards of crayon, separating them into dishes by color. Cut out the shape you want from the wax paper- two of each shape. Use the crayon to create a design on one of the sheets of wax paper. Green for the stem, Orange for the pumpkin, Black & Yellow to create the face- again, leave a few spaces, and don't put the crayon too close to the edge. The crayon doesn't have to be very thick.. Place the second sheet on the crayon shavings, and cover with a towel, then iron it. The wax from the crayons and the wax paper will melt.
Once it's cooled off, use the paper punch to punch a hole in the top, loop with a piece of yarn, and hang in the windows.

just an FYI: I find it can be easier to draw on the wax paper, fill it, iron it, and then cut it out. So if it melts "outside the drawing" It does not get on my iron :)
