I'm getting ready to fix up some oatmeal. A high school girl is one of our engineers and she's going to handle the volleyball broadcast this morning, then I pop in with a short recorded sports program. Got some books at a library sale yesterday to enter on half.com. But I did get to sleep in a little late this morning and rise after sunrise for once. So far, so good.
Good morning. Today I've got to tackle that little room that's been tacked onto the living room. People have been throwing too much crap in there for too long. Yesterday, Hubby brought home a huge pile of vinyl records that he reclaimed from somewhere or other. Gotta find somewhere to put all this stuff so I don't have to climb over it. I'm not much of a climber. LOL
I want to figure out how to repurpose some of that vinyl, too. Hubby knows I always want to make things into other things, so he already set aside some that he's declared untouchable. I might try my hand at making bowls out of some of them, as soon as I figure out what's wrong with the oven. Took 3.5 hours last night to bake a chicken.
Angela, We used to make bowls out of the old records all the time. I think we set the oven around 400 and watched them closely. Ruined a few. Put picturesfrom old greeting cards in the center and then shellaced them. Hope you can get the oven working.
Thanks for the info, Sadie. I was looking around online last night for various things to make from them, and I saw a pretty cool melty-looking clock (a la Salvadore Dali's "Time" painting). But it's got to hang from a mantle or some such, and I no longer have one. Oh, well. There are a bunch of them, so I might try some different things. Or, and this might be more likely, they might just sit there and be in the way and pile up like all my other unfinished projects!
Yeah, all the instructions noted that they should be used pretty much for decorative purposes only, not for food that would come in direct contact with the bowls. They're related to PVC and apparently chemicals could leach into the food.
I've never tried scrapbooking, Lena, but I crochet every once in a while. I can't just do the same thing all the time; it gets too boring for me. So instead I dabble.
I taught myself to crochet about 20 years ago and have made lots of afghams and over 135 baby hats for the University hospitals newborns, but I haven't done any crocheting for a long time. I think my crochet hook case is somewhere in THAT room. LOL
Oh, what I wouldn't give for a real manicure and a pedicure! [sigh] That's one of the things I'm trying not to miss about having money. haha Maybe I'll just spend today being a big old whiny butt!
I like to sew, too. Somewhere in that room, there's some really pretty fabric and a pattern for a blouse I bought about a hundred years ago. Okay, maybe just last spring.
There's also a verrrrry scary box in there. I was digging through the stuff in there not long ago, looking for my latch hooks for Miss D who wanted to use one, and I found an unfinished embroidery piece with the name, birthdate, and weight of my oldest grandson on it. He's going to be 14 next month. Think I should stop starting new projects, maybe? Or maybe I should just stop starting them faster than I finish them!
Angela can I whine with you? I have cut my already meager spending quite a bit as I have watched my retirement funds dwindle. I didn't turn on my heat until this morning but it was 36 out side and only 64 inside. and I needed to take the chill off.
In the 1970s I learned to crochet granny squares. I was going to make an afghan that was beige, gold and olive green. I have enough squares made but never connected them. Oh well it is only 30 odd years later.
