My nieces kitty Red needs a vet!

My nieces kitty Red has developed a mouth problem and with finances being so tight we are scramling to come up with vet funds. :-/ Looks like a very bad gum infection and it is bleeding.

We have a vet appointment for tomorrow but am having trouble coming up with funds for a blood test which I know he will need.

I don't wnat to spam the site but if anyone is or knows anyone who is interested in crochet patterns or crocheted items or Harry Potters books, please send me mail for details.


Would also appreciate any good thoughts/vibes/prayer...he's such a sweet kitty I hate to see him suffering.

Diane talk with the vet. I have had to set up payment plans before. My dog had a surgery that cost well over 1500$ and we paid as much as we could and then a little a long. If it is a good vet, he or she will work with you...

I hope the kitty gets well !

My vet used to accept payments but not anymore. We had been taking our pets there for about 30 years! You'd think that would count for something.

WE switched to a new vet which is a bit less expensive and seems to be a good vet but she doesn't take payments either...

We have enough for a check up and meds but I'd really like for him to have a blood test because at his age (he's about 11 or 12 yrs) I am very concerned about his kidney function.

Plead case at SPCA. They will at times go by the income. They hopefully would rather help the animal than let it suffer due to poverty.

Aww, I am so sorry to here this, my thoughts are with you. I would talk with the vet. I don't think that any good vet would turn you away especially if you are attempting to pay. Speak with them.

Sorry about your kitty. Hope it works out that you can get a payment plan. Sometimes they will say one thing but actually do another. The office may not want it to get around that they will accept a payment plan.

It might be something as simple as getting some toothpaste for cats at your vet's office. My daughter's cat has gum disease, I can't recall the name of it at the moment, but she cleans her cat's teeth every night. The pet toothpaste is enzymes that clean the plaque and germs. My dog has lost some teeth from build-up of plaque on his teeth and I clean his teeth with his poultry flavored paste every night. He's not lost any more teeth, his gums are healthy, and his teeth look clean and white! Your cat may have the same disease as my daughter's cat, but the good news is you can prevent the spread of it with a little effort.

poor kitty, he looks like my Oliver! if the gums are bleeding and sore, it may not be eating enough either......if you get the problem taken care of, you can prevent further problems by giving it a crunchy tater control treat. good luck!

Poor Red... I know that must be uncomfortable. My cat Sara had a problem like that recently. The teeth cleaning wasn't horribly expensive, but I think it was a little over $100. I hope everything turns out okay.

I hope Red does fine! Call your local Humane Society and see if they have any fund set up to help people with vet bills. Best wishes!

I agree with others, call your local humane society! or talk to your vet about this financial burden. if they refuse to help you, find another or ask the humane people.

I will check out the HS and SPCA and see if they have any programs.

Care Credit is only for amounts of 300.00 or higher and I'm not sure my niece would qualify, she is currently unemployed but starts a new job next month...she is a college student but she is having problems getting back to school this year because of this bail out thing has cut off her student loans, and instead of having to pay back the loans after school as she was supposed to they want payments started now (from the bailout as well I assume)...

I am very Sorry to hear about Reds Problem. I hope the vet can figure out an option so you can get him the treatment he needs. I have care credit and I know that you can put any amount on it, but you probably wont get the differed interest unless the amt. is over 300. Maybe you niece could find someone who would co-app with her. Well I hope all goes well. By the way have you looked on line for sites that will help people with needy pets. Just a thought, you can find everything else on the internet.

Thanks again everyone! I really appreciated the advice and prayers for sweet Red!

His appointment is at 5:30 ET.

I checked his abscess last night and wow it has ballooned up! Its white-ish and gray looking:( I feel so bad for him, hopefully the vet will fix him up with good antibiotics and pain meds.

Aw, I hope everything is going to be ok for Red Diane. That's scary, and Vet bills are insanely expensive. I would talk to the vet and do a payment plan (all the ones I know offer it).

This is so sad, poor little kitty. Is there a Woman's Humane Society near you. Sometimes they help out when a vet won't.
