I thought that was very rude of him. McCain dismissed a woman's health as just some pro-choice political stunt. As if a woman doesn't actually have real "health" needs.
I have four children (3 daughters and 1 son) and am not for abortion. But--if someone wants an abortion they will get it. Abortions have be going on for decades and they will continue to happen. Would you want your child, grandchild, or niece to get an illegal abortion in some back street abortion set up, or in a clinic or doctor's office where it is safe and sanitary? I think the later, where there won't be a risk or death or infection. Abortions WILL happen whether they are LEGAL OR ILLEGAL. Abortion should NOT be an issue on choosing a president.

Cindy it is an issue by way of the Supreme Court. It should not be, I agree, but it is. McCain wants Roe v. Wade over turned. Some women have been saying the opposite. He made that loud and clear. He also told to the right that he is a conservative and would appoint conservative judges. Put the two together and abortion is left up to the states. Back to pre Roe v Wade. This is a serious issue.
It is a serious issue. I read a poll that only 20% of America believe that abortion should be illegal. The abortion issue should be left between a woman, her beliefs, and her doctor. McCain and Palin look like heroes to that 20% but the other 80% are turned off by McCain wanting to overturn Roe vs. Wade.
McCain didn't look good to me in this segment of the debate. He had the appeal to emotion going pretty good until he attacked Obama on the medical attention for babies born live in a late term abortion vote. Obama replied calmly and factually.
I think that McCain showed what an a** he is when he answered that way. Women have health issues just like men and they are serious issues. We have the right to do what we want with our bodies. They shouldn't tell us what we can do. No one tells them what to do with their genitalia.
I hope people really pay attention to McCain's attitude throughout the debate, not just his words. He nominates a woman for VP yet he is taking away her rights. He nominates a woman so that he can get Hillary's votes, doesn't seem to be working IMHO. Get real, John! Our "health" is just as important as yours. Start treating it that way and stop talking with such a stupid attitude!
We all should be very leery of any politician that brushes aside women's health issues like sweeping dirt under the carpet. And he is trying to get away from Bush? It looks more like they are joining forces.

Hold on, guys! He brushed away health issues for everyone with his "gold-plated Cadillac plan" statement. He lumped cosmetic surgery and transplants together, and said we don't deserve either.
Much as I hate to defend him, and wouldn't bet anything I care about on this, I don't think his statements necessarily mean that he doesn't know the difference between autism and Down Syndrome. I think it means his handlers know that autism is more a hot topic these days, so he wanted to mention it. Or, maybe it was just a shout out to all those precious autistic kids that show up at his Town Hall meetings.
What I found most offensive was his saying that a judge that was in fact in favor of Roe Vs. Wade wouldn't have the qualities he was looking for....how the heck would he know? You can't judge a person on one single quality...well you can but that makes you small minded. NOT someone I want running a country I live in.
I am outraged every time I hear the term "Pro-Abortion" used instead of Pro-Choice. Like just because we believe we should be the ones choosing, rather than the government doing the choosing for us, that means we "want" abortions. No one WANTS abortions.
I have a NOW button that reads, "Keep your laws off my body." I had an instant gag reflex upon hearing McInane scoff "women's health" as though he or any other bald-headed Republican has the right to determine THAT!

I don't have time to double check my facts so I'm going to wing it. I think, please correct me if I'm wrong, that right now the Supreme Court has 3 Conservative leaning judges, 3 Liberal leaning judges and 1 Independant. I know that they cannot reveal their political party, but that's how they lean. The 2 or 3 that might reitre are all liberal leaning judges. What's wrong with having a balanced Supreme Court? That's the point I'm trying to get at. Shouldn't it stay balanced and not be stacked totally with either Liberal or Conservative Judges? That's what I consider to be fair.
Jim, there are times when that is out of the question or where there has been a rape or incest. A woman should not have to get permission from the father. Regardless of what the "father" wants, he does not have to go through nine months of pregnancy and childbirth.
That might be why many anti-choice folks are hanging their hat on McCain/Palin, despite the implications to the environment, economy, war, budget, taxes, etc. - they want to stack the Supreme Court to overturn Roe vs. Wade, even if the majority of the populace is against it. No matter what harm it does to the country to do so.

Don't forget that "debate" where he lied about being in the sound-proof booth backstage but really listened to the questions where he made his "litmus" test absolutely clear, in doublespeak and winks, of course.
This was a really big turnoff to women voters. How demeaning and condescending he is! I'll bet they really had to twist his arm to get Palin on the ticket. Now she is being used as a prop.
Now, everyone on this post better get off their duff and go sign up to make calls and knock on doors! It does no good to sit here and talk among ourselves.
The man who also said to his own wife "shut up, you c*nt...." or made a joke about Rape, or joked about Chelsea Clinton, or said that "women being paid lower is just a matter of education and experience" doesn't really seem to have much respect for women to begin with now does he? This doesn't surprise me at all. It sickens me but it doesn't surprise me. Yet there are women on here that will back this man and it is mainly out of a blind hatred for Obama and has nothing to do with how they really feel about Caveman Johnny and his views on the rights of women. Sad that it has to be like this in this day and age!!

If it's feasible. But it's not always possible IMO. It would be hard in the instances of incest and rape.
