Joe the Plumber

Just so you know....Joe the Plumber who was mentioned more often than Iraq and the economy in last night's debate, also known in real life as Joe Wurzelbacher...is NOT a registered voter in Ohio.  Not as Joseph either.  So don't bother speculating who he plans to vote for....

Joe The Plumber (the Toledo plumber).  Hmmmm.  Is he?  He may NOT be a plumber. I'm not convinced he's even planning on buying a plumbing business.  It's fascinating to me that he claims he will be netting $250,000 a year.

The "plumber" isn't in the Toledo Yellow Pages and it's more likely that his existence as a plumber buying a $250K business is as sincere as John McShame calling everyone "My Friends!"  Is it just coincidence that the $250K exactly matches the Obama cut-off? I'm not a fan of coincidence.

Uh huh.  Let's see some reporters get out there like they USED to and start digging!

The who was CNN this morning? and teh networks last night? The Boston Globe interviewed Joe Wurzelbacher, an Ohioan who wanted to buy a plumbing company. Is he not real? Did ACORN not register him or did he just skip the free dollar and cigarettes and decide not to register?

I WILL say Joe is a person....if that's what you meant. The person, identified to us AS Joe...IS a person. Oh...Of course, the drivel about ACORN giving a free dollar and cigarettes that you just pulled outta' your backside is QUITE clear. Strange how THAT stuff is clear when it is baseless and completely lacking in facts, isn't it?

McCain said all kinds of crazy things about poor rich Joe. And it seems he's going to decide Obama's tax plan for him. If taxing the super rich more is "redistribution of wealth" then bring it on (since it ain't gonna trickle down - and the super rich are ripping the rest of us off!!! ).

And the ACORN attacks McCain is still sticking with are pathetically stupid and desperate.

I got tickled at poor old McCain the way his doughy little face would light up every time he talked about Joe the Plumber. At least he didn't say, "Maverick" even once. I think the audience would've roared.

The only Joe left at the end of this campaign will be Joe Biden, the future VP. Hopefully by then all this nonsense of "Joes" will blow away.

PJS: Exactly. "Joe the plumber" is worried that he'll have to par more taxes due to earning more than a quarter million dollars a year.

Boo-Fricken'-Hoo. Joe the Plumber....Joe Six-Pack....Joe (who's in the west wing of his estate)....Isn't the average man!!!! They use the colloquial prasing to make him sound like your neighbor though. And this "Joe" isn't registered to vote?? Then why the HELL should anyone care what he thinks?

The ACORN attacks are all they have left so far. That and Ayers will continue until the election. Mark my words.

ACORN pays people to register to vote. They have been investigated for years and in multiple states. Every election cycle they promise to clean up their act and then go out and register Mickey Mouse. I was furious how the Republicans stole Florida in the first Bush win, but I am equally furious that we have a candidate giving $800,000 to a voter registration program that uses money and cigarettes to get people to register and vote for a certain candidate. I follow the candidates, I think before I vote.

Obama was smug and I thought his laughing at McCain showed he is an arrogant and a rude person. He said nothing last night, but went on with the same old talking points. Promies, promises he has no way to keep. He is going to expand healthcare, give 95% of Americans a tax break, expand early education, expand foreign aid, expand jobless benefits, expand our military in Afghanistan, with what? More printed money based on funds we borrow from China.

"...program that uses money and cigarettes to get people to register and vote for a certain candidate."

Please show me ANY source that will indicate that people are being paid dollar bills and cigarettes to vote for a certain candidate by ACORN, a community based voter registration group. You keep saying the same drivel but never back it up. I can do that too....watch: "McShame pay $100,000 to have Obama assassinated." See? It's EASY to say anything you want. IF you have a voter registration drive registering people from low to moderate areas people like you get upset because THOSE people are predominantly Democrats. ACORN has over 350,000 members and more than 850 neighborhood chapters in over 100 cities and if some one signs "Mickey Mouse"....someone like YOU, Linda, they have no control over that. They flag the suspicious stuff and turn it all in.

But that's ok....keep talking ACORN (which Obama isn't involved with) and Professor Ayers. Obviously you can't thump the drum for Pro-War, Pro-torture, Pro-Corporate Tax cut McShame.....because any talk about real issues will get him bitch-slapped even harder on election day.

"I follow the candidates, I think before I vote. "
I doubt that's true.

How do you know he isn't a registered voter? Is there a list on the internet with every registered voter listed? And just because he's not listed as a plumber in the yellow pages doesn't mean he isn't one. I know many trades people who are not listed individually. The company they work for is listed, but not every employee is listed.

"...with what? More printed money based on funds we borrow from China. "

Oh Puh-LEASE! The last Democrat in office handed this filthy pack of miscreants a HUGE surplus that has been squandered away along with our respect in the world. Bush has spent more now than ALL previous Presidents COMBINED.

And what does McSHAME want to do??? Cut MORE taxes on corporations because the world record profits from the oil industry aren't enough, are they? How do you suppose McSHAME will be paying for the WARS in Afghanistan AND Iraq while cutting taxes if not by selling more of the US to China?? Seriously.....you're not even beginning to suggest McShame will be a balanced budget President while continuing the financial hemmoraging of $10 BILLION dollars each and every month in Iraq alone, are you? Really?

[ *shakes head* ]

It's sad what these bumper sticker maggots can convince people of as they rape this country and those with eyes know that these bills will be paid by our kids and grandkids. I wish when McShame said, "Why would anyone want to raise ANYONE'S taxes now?" that Obama had said "Because you vile little weasle...WE'RE spending it...WE should pay for it...NOT our grandchildren!"

Conservative. Yeah right.

ACORN pays people to register to vote. Not true. ACORN pays people to go into the streets and register voters. They do not pay the people who register.

I hope Joe Sixpack and Joe Plumber both heard John McCain admit (finally) that he does plan to tax the $5,000 he will so generously "give" them to purchase an insurance plan that might cover a flu shot but that will NOT be the "Gold-plated Cadillac" (snicker) plan that covers transplants. Only the rich and infamous mavericks deserve real healthcare.

Good questions Amy. I don't personally know of any business that brings in a quarter million dollars a year to the owner not listed...but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I only mention it because I find it unusual and interesting. It also adds substance to the allegation that this whole thing stinks of a GOP charade, when placed with the interesting use of the $250 thousand coincidental figure.

As far as the internet listing of registered voters in Toledo, I have no idea if there is one or not. I doubt it. However, Voter registration records are public records and can be searched by anyone. Most of them will also include a list of every petition you signed. Under either Joe or Joseph, he's not registered. I find that eyebrow raising unique. Now, before you mention it...I will concede his name may well be Jehosephat or some such thing. But that's not likely. Is it?

I realize in today's day and age it seems like we should be able to access anything on the internet...but that just isn't so. Some things take more work. Vital Statistics, Voter Registration and DMV records and info are cases in point.

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

One of the problems that ACORN has is that the law states that they have to submit all of the voter registration forms that they get. So if they go to a neighborhood and everyone says their name is Donald Duck, they have to submit those forms.

So, Doyle, have you personally looked at the voter registration records to verify that Joe isn't a registered voter? Or are you making an assumption or taking it as hearsay from somebody else? And from my understanding, Joe wants to buy the business - he's not the owner yet - and therefore he wouldn't be listed. I just looked up my furnace company in the yellow pages and the owner's name isn't listed, only the business name, so I believe you have some faulty logic there. Likewise, the small business I am employed by has a listing, but no employees are listed in the yellow pages. And with a staff of ten I know we clear well over a quarter of a million dollars.

I think my favorite McCain-ism of the night was his claiming that he would build something like 60 nuclear power plants "right away". Nuclear power plants don't get built "right away". They take like 10-15 years to build. McCain will be dead and buried before his first one comes online.

The issue on the taxes that people like Joe will have to pay under an Obama administration will decrease job creation. Don't people want to have good paying jobs nowadays? Or is it easier to sit and complain, go on welfare and let big government be their daddy?

Sandy....you're right. Initially she was maintaining (even more erroneously)...that the "program that uses money and cigarettes to get people to register and vote for a certain candidate. "

Naturally, you'll NEVER see a source for these assertions.

I should like to point out, since you mentioned the accurate information about voter registration, they don't pay people in cigarettes to go register other people to vote. And with as many people as they have, there will always be people goofing around and signing funny names, etc. There will likely be, as well, some people filling in names themselves so that they can get more money when they turn their stuff in. But...THAT'S not election fraud OR voter fraud....not until Mickey Mouse actually shows up to cast a vote.

Here's my understanding of Joe the Plumber's problem as it relates to Obama's tax plan.

If he clears 250K, he will pay 35% tax on that money. If he clears more than that, he will pay 35% on the first 250K, then he will pay 39% on anything after that. Let's say he makes $500K. On the first 250K, he's going to pay $87500. On the second 250K, he's going to pay $97500. That's an increase of $10K. Which is a good amount of money when you're running a small business.

However, I do have to take issue with the idea that the extra money will kill jobs at his company. If he wants to hire another plumber, he'll probably have to pay the guy at least $40K. (I've done refrigeration which is in line with plumbing and I know I wouldn't work in that industry for much less than that unless I was desperate). So in order for the increased tax to prohibit him from hiring another guy, he's going to have to be making 1.25 million/year in order to lose $40K to taxes.

I will say that 35% tax on his business really seems excessive. Which, I know has nothing to do with either candidate.

"So, Doyle, have you personally looked at the voter registration records to verify that Joe isn't a registered voter?"

No, I haven't personally. Ohio's a bit far for me. Have you personally seen McCain's birth certificate from Panama or are you just making an assumption and taking it as hearsay? Perhaps you don't know anyone in Toledo but the fact is if you want some information and you have a friend, and you have them check it out for you....that doesn't make the information any less valid. I already conceded he may have some unique name...I'm only pointing out a remarkable string of coincidences. Feel free to think nothing of them if you choose.

"And from my understanding, Joe wants to buy the business - he's not the owner yet - and therefore he wouldn't be listed."

"the" business? Which one? I only have "A" business. You're right...he was supposed to be an independednt plumber working hard....up to 12 hours a day, wasn't it? Saving and working hard. So...how do you suppose people knew to call him? He may have had billboards, posters, signs or skywriting....but for me, personally, I usually hit the yellow pages when I need a plumber. With his 12 hour days I guess he didn't need business?

"...so I believe you have some faulty logic there. "
What a shocker.

"I think my favorite McCain-ism of the night was his claiming that he would build something like 60 nuclear power plants "right away". Nuclear power plants don't get built "right away". "

People learn stuff from FOX? Really? Which views were unfounded there? I'm merely pointing out some uniquely coincidental things. Joe the Neo-con plumber is of NO interest to me. What IS of interest is what the "Maverick" and his team are doing and whether this strange seeming turn of events are based in any sort of reality or not. I realize that some people are uncomfortable when questions are asked. Ignorance is bliss, right?

Yeah? Well, it's worked SO well the last eight years giving all those corporate tax breaks, hasn't it? It's a crock. Unemployment is high, jobs are being shipped overseas and the economy is in the dumpster and giving out MORE tax breaks won't help create jobs. Many major corporations already pay NO taxes. You get that? Average wage earners pay more in taxes than some major corporations. How do you cut below $0? Should we PAY them to hire people?

this whole thing stinks of a GOP charade Of course it does. John McCain brought it up. I hear Joe is a blond skinhead, so now I want McCain to produce pictures of his children to prove Joe doesn't belong to him.

Another thing to keep in mind about the people ACORN hires for voter registration is that they are hired and paid by the day. They aren't carefully screened but are not invited back if they don't do a good job the day before.

When Obama spoke directly to Joe Plumber/SixPack and said, "Zero," and McCain's eyes nearly bugged out of his head?

Doyle - from what I'm hearing, they are saying now that ol' Joe's name was mispelled and when they checked again, they did find him in Ohio, they did find him as a registered Republican and they cannot locate him anywhere on the state lists for registered tradesmen.

I suspect that this story is just starting.

Sandy - that's the one I was thinking of, yes. The rolling of the eyes, the darting of the tongue, those weird grimaces and faces he makes...he looked like a little kid with gas. Someone should have burped him. Seriously, he was so twitchy and fidgity. It was really sad in a way. Kinda like a dog in a party hat. Just so odd - sad, not funny.

So.... Would this be another example of McCain using someone without checking them out first? Could be a theme of the Republican party this campaign season...

Or.... Could this just be the final nail in the coffin that they're planting for themselves?

Surely they wouldn't be stupid enough to make up a person's profession or voting eligibility ... They MUST know that people would check into his claims.

Not sure Bud - IF they did it again, grabbed someone without checking them out fully, then they deserve what they get. If he is what he claims to be then he was a decent find for them but I don't see it as a game-changer by any stretch of the imagination.

Perhaps because his name is Samuel J. Wurzelbacher? I have no source but saw that listed in another comment. It would explain some of it anyway.

"If he is what he claims to be then he was a decent find for them but I don't see it as a game-changer by any stretch of the imagination. "
I don't see him as a decent "find" either. Just another absurd, spoiled millionaire who hates paying for schools, roads, and social security because he wants more and more money. Selfish lowlife.

I don't know about where all of you folks live, but here, where we live, painters, roofers, plumbers, vinyl siding installers, folks like that, are cleaning up as far as wages are concerned. You see, a lot of folks go to college nowadays. They don't lean how to clean their gutters, much less have time to do it themselves. They don't have time to mow their yards, or they have the money to have someone else do it for them. So, Joe the Plumber is really one of hundreds of thousands who know a trade, or a skill and work for those who don't. Those folks who have that college education and are pulling in the six figures per year, will pay those on the other end of the spectrum to work for them. Government should stay out of this and allow the people at the other end to keep working and hire others to share their wealth, the way it should be, through work! This allows all of us to prosper and grow, whereas, giving to those who do not pay taxes with money from Joe the Plumber and the guy with the education, is just not right! That's socialism. What do you think those who do not pay taxes will do with those funds? I would think they would buy a big screen tv, put a dish on their home, and let the government daddy take care of them. It doesn't give incentives for someone to get off their butt and work!

Beaker - I don't think Joe the Plumber is related to Charles Keating but he did unclog the toilet at Lincoln Savings and Loan - apparently it was clogged with hair, some small rocks, hundreds of senior citizens life savings, dreams of children going to college and John McCains dignity and honor.

Or so I've heard.

How do you know he isn't a registered voter? Is there a list on the internet with every registered voter listed? And just because he's not listed as a plumber in the yellow pages doesn't mean he isn't one. I know many trades people who are not listed individually. The company they work for is listed, but not every employee is listed.

Voter registration is public and apparently there is a national website that shows everybody who is registered to vote.
Samuel J. Wurzelbacher is an unlicensed plumber who works for a plumbing company in Toledo Ohio according to the article I read on yahoo news earlier today.

"So, Joe the Plumber is really one of hundreds of thousands who know a trade, or a skill and work for those who don't. "

No he isn't. He's not Joe the plumber, he's Joe the liar. He now admits he doesn't have the money he claimed. His brother is Charles Keating's son-in-law....he's a PLANT. Making an untrue argument which is baseless even if it were true.

"Those folks who have that college education and are pulling in the six figures per year, will pay those on the other end of the spectrum to work for them. "
OR...hire illegal aliens they can pay under the table...right? Incidentally, hundreds of thousands? 300 million people live here. I have a gardening staff....seriously. They take care of my yard care and they get paid. I make nowhere NEAR a quarter mil a year. so GIESS what? They'll still work for me after President Obama takes office. AND, GOD help me, if I DO make more than a quarter MIL...I'll happily pay an additional 4% on the money I make OVER that!

"Government should stay out of this and allow the people at the other end to keep working and hire others to share their wealth, the way it should be, through work!"
Little clue for you Sugarbritches....taxes apply to everyone. They ARE staying out of it. It's all about making people pay according to their ability AND according to how much they profit from living here.

"This allows all of us to prosper and grow, whereas, giving to those who do not pay taxes with money from Joe the Plumber and the guy with the education, is just not right!"
Another clue for you...nobody is giving, we're discussing who should pay and how much they should pay for the services we ALL get. WHY on Earth should a person squeaking by pay the same amount for a person who is a millionaire? The military cost is set to protect the rich guy's money....do you really believe a guy with no reasoable wealth to take is a target of a hostile nation? NO. The wealth is the target. Shouldn't the wealth contribute more to the taxes since they get the services of the military to protect them??

"That's socialism."
Ooooh. A buzz word. And you have NO idea what it means! There isn't ONE Socialistic country on Earth. Fire and Police protection is 100% socialism. You hate them too?

"What do you think those who do not pay taxes will do with those funds? "
What in the name of Hell are you talking about??? What funds? If you don't pay taxes...you're not getting a check from Joe the Liar! If you don't pay taxes....you're not getting a check at all!

"I would think they would buy a big screen tv, put a dish on their home, and let the government daddy take care of them. "
You would. If they don't make enough to pay taxes how do you suppose they'd afford it? Sheeesh. Please. Try to think about what you say! I hate seing people embarass themselves like this.

"It doesn't give incentives for someone to get off their butt and work! "
Yeah...because it SO sucks to make more than a quarter of a million dollars I'll quit my job after the election so I don't have to worry about that 4% increase on taxes for everything I make over that. BRILLIANT!

Let me guess...please...you're a Stanford graduate? LoL!

Doyle- I think you may have the wrong Joe. Olberman is explaining that there are actually a bunch of Wurzelbackers in Ohio and this shaven headed dude is not the same one as Keating's son in law's brother.

However it is pretty clear that Mr. skinhead is not really who he says he is. He is a contractor, but he does not have plumbers license, and he does not have the money to be in the tax bracket that would have to worry about Obama's plans. he may not understand that, as he does not seem to be a very bright guy.
But as a Poster boy for small business, he is sadly lacking.

A wacko comment: "I would think they would buy a big screen tv, put a dish on their home, and let the government daddy take care of them. "

Doyle's response: You would. If they don't make enough to pay taxes how do you suppose they'd afford it? Sheeesh. Please. Try to think about what you say! I hate seing people embarass themselves like this.

My two cents: I've thought about what she said. After being embarrassed for her, I decided to try and explain. They might buy a television, which would put some money back into the system (as directed by the Republicans who want everyone to spend spend spend). And they might put a dish on their home (which they will have to do soon if they don't buy a new television, because we don't get to choose whether or not we want that new system in this free country). And they might even let the government daddy take care of them, which is a sad truth for many hard-working people since the Bush Administration has not only cost millions of jobs, it has also given us higher prices without wage increases to match.

That's the part about putting money in the hands of the "little people" - they buy stuff (aside from just food and shelter, though that's nice, too) that *gasp* keeps businesses in business.

If no one can afford to buy stuff, tax breaks don't help business. I wish people got that.
