The other night my husband wasn't feeling very good. I asked him if he wanted some tea, just as my twelve year old son was walking down the stairs. My husband said tea would be nice and I said, "Oh good, Daniel is here. He'll make you some tea!" I was half-joking, half-serious. I was kind of curious what Daniel would do. Would he offer to make the tea? Or, would he run away screaming, "Nooooo!!!" Unfortunately, he did the latter. He ran up the stairs, laughing and screaming, "Nooooo!!!." (Do I know my son or what? - lol). As he reached the top of the stairs, I heard a definite ker-plunk and then an, "OW!!!" I started laughing and almost said it, "See, the devil got ya!"
I stopped myself before it came out of my mouth. Those were the words my Mom used to use on me when I did something wrong. If she knew I was going to do something, she would warn me away from it with, "The devil will get ya." If I had already done something wrong, it was inevitable I would hear the words, "See, the devil got ya!" I hated those words! I hated it when she said that. I hated that the devil watched everything I did!!! Didn't he have anything better to do?! It worked though. I didn't want the devil to get me, so I tried to be the best little girl I could be. I promised myself I would never use those words on my own kids, though!
Are there any phrases or comments your parents used to make consistently? What are they? Do you use them on your own kids now?

Since we have the same mom, I pretty much heard all the same ones as you did.
and for the most part i havent
but I guess i have my own sayings lol
Here's a 10 for you & thanks for posting at Up All Nite Café.
My grandma, god rest her soul, would always have these little sayings that I use on my own kids till this day. Like if my older son says he can't do something, I will say, "There's no such thing as can't. And, I don't want to hear you say that anymore."
