Call me Liberal scum, or misguided, or stupid. I don’t care. I make no qualms about being a very opinionated person. Of course, I know none of you will use derogatory comments about me, because we live in America where we are all entitled to have an opinion and speak our minds. And rather you agree with me or not, at the very least you can agree with those sentiments, that though we may disagree on issues, we should be able to discuss our differences civilly.
Of course, I think I lean more left than right, I consider myself personally to be a "moderate" or "centrist" is another word for it. I don’t always agree with the left, and I don t agree with the right either. However, there are some "conservative" issues I agree with. Overall however, I sometimes think both extremes to be a bit off, and I think that the right answers come from finding common ground and compromise in both the liberal and conservative agenda.
On the whole however, I think I lean more left than anything, and I have no problem admitting it.
I believe in equal rights for all, so I think that the defense of marriage act should be repealed, and we should let same sex couples get married. If you don’t believe in same sex unions don’t have one, it is that simple. I believe that two committed people who love each other should have the same right to express that love openly, and should not be discriminated against and they should have the same rights and same privileges and tax breaks that a straight married couple gets. I do think however, that a religious institution can choose not to marry someone based on the principles and teachings of that religion, however, I think that the Government should not deny someone the right to marry Legally, and should not deny them a governmental marriage license and documents. We have a little thing called “Separation of Church and State”
I am Pro-Choice, but that does not mean that I am Anti life, I think a woman has a right to choose what she does with her body, I don’t like it that politicians try to legislate morality, there are a lot of issues surrounding this, such as life beginning at conception and etc. and most “pro-life” people tend to take a slight religious/moral/Philosophical viewpoint towards rather life begins at conception or not. Instead Science has said that at conception there is nothing but a collection of cells forming and there is no real signs of “human life” for several months. Though, I would hope that people would choose to adopt instead of terminating a pregnancy, I understand the desire and need for choices. In the cases of Rape, Incest, or Health risks for the child or mother. I don’t think that elective abortion should be used as a form of birth control, However, like I said I understand the right to privacy and the need for choices. I think that politicians should stay out of the Doctor’s office and let the Doctors and the Patient come to an understanding on their own. I think the choice to perform an abortion should be between the medical professional and the people wishing to have it done. I think there should be guidelines in place by the medical community to perform them safely and effectively, so as to lessen the chance of complications. However, I also think that a Doctor due to their Hippocratic oath can choose to defer on performing an abortion, and choose not to do one. But like I said the decision should be between the Doctors and people directly involved not politicians, not lobbyists and not religious fundamentalists.
I am Pro-gun, as afforded to us in the Constitution of the United States of America. I think people have a fundamental right to bare and use firearms for sport, hunting, or in the defense of their self, others, or their country. However, I do not think normal citizens need to have Automatic weaponry, so I think the Federal Automatic weapon ban should be reinstated. The only people that should have Automatic weapons are Military Personnel, Law Enforcement/Corrections Personnel, and Private Security Personnel. I think people who have been convicted of violent crimes should also not be allowed to have access to any type of firearm. I think there should be gun control legislation in effect, but there should be safeguards to ensure that every day’s citizens rights to bare arms are protected, but make them strict enough so that people who perform crimes with firearms can’t get their hands on them.
I think that the war in Iraq should come to an end immediately. Though, I agree that Saddam was a bad guy, I feel that President Bush lied to us and to congress in order to get the approval that he needed to go into Iraq. I admit, I am no military professional or in the know as far as Washington and their intelligence is concerned. But to my knowledge Iraq and Saddam had no involvement whatsoever with Al Qaeda or with the September 11th 2001 Terror attacks. I think that troops should be pulled out of Iraq, and diverted to other key spots for our National Security, such as in Afghanistan to hunt down Osama Bin Laden and the rest of Al Qaeda’s leadership. I am not Un-Patriotic. I support the troops. I wanted to be one but was unable to join up due to health circumstances. I have nothing but respect for our fighting men and women who put themselves in harms way to defend this country from enemies domestic and foreign. However, I do not believe that troops should be committed into an armed conflict under false pretenses.
I think that we should invest is alternative energy and fuel sources. To help ease our dependence on foreign oil, and to help reduce green house gas emissions and to help the ozone layer and our environment to help ease global warming. I think that Oil, and coal are dead fossil fuels and that we should invest in Solar, Wind, Geothermal, and other energy sources of tomorrow, we need to create new green jobs. And I think that those who work in coal and oil, they should not have to worry about losing their jobs, we should still utilize those resources until they run out, but in a limited capacity, and invest in cleaner energy sources. And we should re-train those people to work in more energy efficient greener jobs. I think we should also look into Nuclear Power, and find ways to dispose of the Nuclear Waste safely, cleanly, and effectively.
I am for the death Penalty; I believe that certain crimes are so heinous that the only way to get justice is if the perpetrator is deprived of their own life. I don’t think that the death penalty should be used in only capital murder cases however, I think that certain other crimes should also carry a capacity for a capital offense such as brutal and violent rape, and cases of child molestation. If the sex offender cannot be rehabilitated, then I think instead of wasting tax payer dollars to house, feed, and clothe them for the rest of their lives in prison that we should just execute them. That may be harsh, but it’s what I think.
I think that it is horrible how our health care system is broken, and I think something needs to be done about it, if the Private insurance companies are so greedy that they’ll let people go uninsured and deprive them of treatment. Then I think that the Government should step in and help with a governmental mandated health care plan that would leave no American uninsured and no American would be denied treatment whatsoever.
I am for Free Trade, and the Free market, however I am against greedy corporations, and people who have helped to get us into this current economic crisis. I am for Union Labor, and unions who help to ensure workers are treated fairly and receive good wages and benefits, however I am against Union fat cats who do nothing but exploit the American Worker.
If I have skimmed over any issue then I apologize, however these are the main ones that come to my mind. And these are my positions on them. Thank you.

I totally don't care about gay marriage. I hope they have some sort of union I guess, just so I can hear them all clamor to get divorces just like us hetero couples. Whatever - knock yourselves out.
I don't care in the least about abortion one way or the other either. I'm a guy, and I'm fixed. What other people do or don't do, whatever.
The main thing I disagree with you on I think is health care. I know I'm of the minority opinion, but I don't happen to think free health care is a right. I don't think I should have to pay for world class treatment of someone else who can't afford it. One of the problems with our health care system (and there are PLENTY) isn't that there isn't enough government involvement, it's that there's way too much. Nobody has ANY incentive to keep costs down, so they fly through the roof. Another problem is the uninsured illegals and homeless and other deadbeats clogging up the emergency rooms. I'd be in favor of throwing them all out. Yes I know what that means.
I'm also in favor of allowing law-abiding citizens to have automatic weapons. The 2nd Amendment wasn't written with hunters in mind - it was written by revolutionaries to protect the rights of militia, so that future generations could rise up against their government if the need should arise. I'm with you though, in that if you've been convicted of a major violent crime, you lose your gun privileges.
