Jennifer parked her Camaro in front of the simple two story town house, and checked her face in the interior mirror. Her lipstick was fine, and she wasn't wearing any other makeup. After all this wasn't a date. Not really. She swung out of the car, slammed the door shut, and walked casually up to the house. She had passed the house a couple of times, but had never been inside. There was no bell, so she used the brass knocker. Twice. As the door opened, she mentally held her breath, but it wasn't him standing there, ready to greet her. It was her. The wife.
"Hi Jen, thanks so much for coming. And on such short notice. We really do appreciate it"
"Oh its nothing Mrs. Henry, I'm happy I could help"
"Please Jen, call me Gloria."
"OK." Gloria let her in and showed her to the sofa in the living room. Jen sat down and crossed her legs, letting the short denim skirt ride halfway up her thighs.
"Can I get you anything?" Gloria had noticed the thighs, and her voice betrayed a hint of disapproval. Or perhaps, worry?
"Oh no thank you, Gloria. Im fine."
"Great. Excuse me, I'm just going to finish putting Jake to bed, and then Stan I will be off."
As she started to leave, Professor Henry came into the room.
"Hi Jen"
She sat up straighter, allowing the low cut blouse to strain against the bra. She smiled, and looked up into his eyes. His wonderful deep blue eyes.
"Hello, Professor Henry."
He smiled too, got a good look at her thighs, her chest, and then met her eyes. He seemed about to say something, when the wife, speaking softly, asked him to go get something from the study. He looked away, and then smiled again at Jen and left.
It wasn't much, but it was enough for her. She had her plan. When they got home, she would go back out to her car, and find that it wouldn't start. She already knew that Stan Henry knew nothing about cars, so he was not the kind of man who would offer to look under the hood, and pretend to try to fix something. Instead, he would offer to drive her home. And she would take it from there. Maybe just a glance, or even a quick kiss. Somthing to let him know she was available. For him. Anytime he wanted her.
They had light jackets on now. Gloria was giving her phone numbers, and instructions on what to do if their one year old woke up. They would be back in two hours, three at the most. Jake always slept through the first 4 to 5 hours, so there shouldn't be any problems. And then they were gone. Jen began to relax. She didn't feel like watching TV, or reading. She closed her eyes, and allowed herself the luxury of a day dream. About Stan.
The knock on the door startled her. Who could that be? She rose from the couch and moved cautiosuly to the window where she could look out onto the porch. But before she got there, the front door opened. "They must have forgotten something," she thought, and then there was Gloria, standing in the doorway. But something was terribly wrong. Gloria's eyes were wide open, but unseeing. Her mouth, making no sound, was open also, and a trail of blood dripped from it as if from a wound.
Jen backed up, and tried to speak, but her own mouth was too dry. And then Gloria, rigid and still making no sound, began to fall forward. Jen screamed, as the woman fell flat on her face. Seeing the knife in Gloria's back, Jen screamed again. But this time the scream was cut short by a large hand that circled her face, and pulled her whole head backwards. She smelled some acrid chemical and then there was nothing.
She woke up on the couch with a terrible headache. After a moment of confusion, she jumped up and ran into the hallway. There was no body on the floor, and the door was closed. Could it have been a dream? She ran up the stairs, found Jake's room, and saw him sleeping quietly in his bed. It must have all been a terrible dream.
The house was very quiet. Except for some sort of sound coming from what must be the master bedroom, down the hall. It was a rhythmic sound, soft, muted. Feeling the terror return, Jen willed herself to go closer to the bedroom. As she got to the door, which was ajar, she recognized the sound. It was snoring. Someone was asleep in the Henry's bedroom. Jen froze for a moment. Her cell phone was downstairs in her pocketbook. Careful to make no sound, Jen hurried back to the stairs, and started to descend. Her cell began to ring, with that stupid ringtone her friend Marcy had installed the day before. Jen raced down the stairs, grabbed the phone and opened it. "Hello?, Mrs. Henry?"
"Hello", she heard a strange male voice. "Who is this?"
"Who is THIS?", she stage whispered into the phone.
"Well, Im not Mrs. Henry. In fact there is no Mrs. Henry."
In a panic Jen closed the phone, then dialed the number she had been given by her professor's wife. It rang and rang, but there was no answer. And then she heard it. A cell phone ringing. It was a simple ring tone, one of the standard ones. It was coming from upstairs. Jen closed her phone and the ringing from upstairs stopped. Jen's mind was gripped by a mix of terror and confusion. Was that Gloria Henry snoring upstairs in the bedroom? It made no sense. Jen knew she had to get out of there. She grabbed her purse and started for the door. As she passed the hall, her eye caught sight of something on the wall, low down near the floor. It was a blood stain. Small, but fresh.
"Jennifer"
She knew that voice. Looking up at the top of the stairs she saw her teacher, the man of her dreams, standing there looking down at her.
"Jennifer," he said again, "Come here. Come to me."
And with a sense of horror that she could not resist, she obeyed.

Missing a word here- between "then Stan I":
"Great. Excuse me, I'm just going to finish putting Jake to bed, and then Stan I will be off."
