Just like the pears, I was sent home from my mothers house with TONS of apples from her tree. So I made a homemade apple pie with them!
I even made the crust myself too!
Crust:
3c flour
1c lard**
3/4c cold water
pinch of salt
beat flour, lard, salt together, add cold water and mix with fork untill formed. This is an old recipe that was my I think Great Great Grandmothers. I always end up using more flour, and when I roll it out using lots of flour because it seems to turn out sort of sticky
** since I didn't have lard I used sticks of butter,** which probably made a difference in the dough consistency, but it turned out just fine with a bit more flour
Apple Pie Filling:
2/3c sugar
1/3c flour (all purpose)
1 tbs cinnamon
1/4 tspn ground clove
recipe for double pie crust- I used recipe above and had plenty, but you can just use storebought crust to save time.
***8 granny smith apples pealed, cored, sliced ***
***I used apples off of my mothers tree instead, and just cut up as many as I figured I would need, untill I had enough to fill the entire pie pan and have a nice pile of apples on top of that too***
1. Preheat oven to 350
2. Stir together sugar, flour, cinnamon, and cloves. MIx in apples.
3. Place one pie crust into pie pan. Pour apple mixture in.
4. Place top crust over and press around edges with fork. Cut some slits into top crust with knive unless you do the top like I did where I weaved thin strips in and out. This takes a lot more time to do...
(then I also brushed some butter onto the top to make it brown a bit more, (even though it still didn't brown much..) and sprinkled a bit more sugar over the top.
5. Bake in preheated oven 45minutes.
Delish served HOT with some vanilla ice cream!! Yummy!
ENJOY!

and yeah, tb, the recipe calls for lard, but like I mentioned it is a very old recipe that was my great great grandmothers. I just used butter, I should have put an ** in next to the lard so it was clear that I used butter instead. Don't know how many people actually still use lard in cooking..
take it easy... Bless you...and yours...
