Yes, I am not just annoyed. Each and every cell in my body is furious that the Bush/Cheney administration is always behind the eight ball. The current leadership in government is a complete and utter joke because either they do not have the capacity to think ahead or they refuse to do it. A wonderful book by a friend of mine, Al Bernstein, is entitled, "Emotional Vampires". It is a tongue in cheek exposé of the behavior of certain individuals who appear to suck the living daylights out of us while we are hynotized into submission. Using this sort of analysis, I would offer that Dick Cheney is in fact a financial vampire and George W. Bush, his victim and protegé. Candidly, what else could possibly explain what has gone on in this country in the last eight years?
The government needs to get ahead of things by erring on the side of doing too much rather than their usual process of never doing enough. The conservatives in this country also should examine what the last eight years have done to our country. The situation is too critical for us to remain the selfish S.O.B.s we usually are.
Along with privatizing as many jobs and resources as they possibly could, this administration has drained our treasury, ruined our housing market, started a war against Iraq with no legitimate provocation, destroyed our financial institutions, lost billions of dollars in 'cash' in Iraq... that one still confounds me as I do not understand why 'cash' was in the billions... I never carry more than $100... and generally destroyed the pillars supporting our way of life.
The most scandalous acts of all, however, have been Bush/Cheney attempts to denigrate our Constitution by ignoring our rights to peaceful assembly, freedom of speech, implementing torture of prisoners, 'disappearing' people, attacks on habeus corpus... should I go on or is it too depressing for a Monday morning?
Isn't it time for some intellect to return to the White House? As a financial person and small business owner, I can tell voters the truth. If the government does not shore up the banks and release and encourage the flow of credit and capital, we will go into another depression. At this point in time it is so serious it doesn't matter who is responsible for all of this. We can make them pay later... and we should... but for now we have to pull the plug on the panic. The only way that is going to happen is if confidence is restored in our financial system's ability to function, people can get or keep a decent job, health care costs are controlled, alternative energy is developed and our children all have access to excellent public education.
Dear God, please think this time before you cast your vote. Our very way of life depends on it.

Emotional vampires on the other hand has given me a terrific idea !!!! Thank you for everything, distant relation from MV.
Featured in the Triple Name Club.
I think in the past we have had poor judgement on both sides in some area.
The major deregulation was from the right and the warning from governors as far back as 2003 was not heeded by Bush.
The idea of keeping them in the white house makes me sick.
Power corrupts and this guys are not working for us, the people...
I think Bush and Cheney are radical, anti-American terrorists that have infiltrated our government playing the religion card. They are in cahoots with those who wish to see the "end days" in their lifetime. And if they and their buddies get rich trying to bring that mythology to life, they don't care what happens.
Let me know what you discover...
WHO owns the media?
Whoever owns the media owns the minds of the TV republic.

Robert, thanks for clearing up the false information. A few people (mostly wearing the same icons) seem insistent on dropping misinformation on most every political article.

Cheney: (Looks at table and sees 5 stripes and one solid left) You have the stripes, George.
I have been asking that same question re: "what happened to real Investigative Journalism"
for some time now.
And YES, we Definitely need to get the message out (Publicize who the Publishers are)
about who really RUNS the media and sets the tone for the op-ed boards and what gets covered in the daily media, and who and what tone is set by these 'editors' around the country.
It is time to re-regulate MANY industries including Banking, Insurance, Financial, Energy,
Pharmaceutical and YES ALSO the MEDIA.
The power of the PEN and INK and the ability to redirect the eyeballs of the American public away from the magicians true actions is much TOO CONCENTRATED into the hands of a few very wealthy and VERY Powerful entities such as that of Rupert Murdoch (he of FIXED NOISE, etc.).
We need to reintroduce the former regulation which made it illegal for one person or corporation to own a monopoly of media outlets in any one Metropolis in order to keep these Self Serving Big Boys of Media from directing US away from the REAL STORIES of importance going on beneath or own noses.
It IS too much to expect the average American to spend hours per day or week investigating for themselves what is TRULY going on in this world.
Joe SIX PACK is actually too busy trying to earn a living to survive.
We need to return to the days of Cronkite and Huntley-Brinkley when you could actually BELIEVE what the nightly anchors were telling you WAS the unbiased consensus of what the "TRUTH" was in America on a day to day basis.
When Walter Cronkite told you a news story, you COULD BELIEVE IT!
Now days EVERY news organization has some sort of bias however big or small.
When the daily local 6' o'clock news does a 3 minute piece on what's on that networks schedule for the night, are we to believe that THAT is what is most important for US to know for that day?
We need a return to the days when NEWS was NEWS and Entertainment was Entertainment.
A return to the days when the NEWS was an honest, unbiased, unfiltered look
at the real stories of the day seen not through Right OR Left Wing Colored Glasses, rather through neutral non filtered glasses with 20/20 vision.
The type of vision which will allow Joe and Josephine Six Pack to decide what is right for them without their needing to spend hours and hours each week trying to decipher
which stories are slanted in which direction.
Perhaps that would stop the Corporate hand of Edgar Bergen sticking their hands up the rear end of the current administrations Charlie McCarthy the Dummies making it appear that Charlie McCarthy really IS the one speaking.
Of course in those days we allowed the big boys of Madison Avenue tell us that 'A PACK A DAY IS A-OK!".
That is another matter.
I seriously doubt that in these days of unbridled greed and unregulated monopolistic and anti- small business practices brought on by the hands of Big Businesses Edgar Bergen types that we will ever return to the days of an America where even if you disagreed with your neighbors political views, you would still BBQ together on the weekends and would help your neighbors in need without being asked.
But one can dream still even in these days of the Corporate hand of Edgar Bergen up your rear end.
Dream Away America.
Dream Away!
thanks for pointing out the "Only ONE vetoed bill" since the
DEMS have been 'in charge'.
HA!
And where IS Dicky boy Cheney these days...he appears to be lying low, waiting for the day when he can slither out the back door and hope no one is watching...
What's weird about this though is that I think it's the advancements in education and increased access to information we enjoy today that has brought us to this condition. Not long ago the dumbest among us knew we were dumb and deferred to the smart people. Today I think we've reached a point where the dumbest among us have reached a level that makes them THINK they know what they are talking about and have grown disdainful of smart people.
Fortunately it seems the smart people have gotten hip to this and are coming out in numbers sufficient to nulify the IDIOT vote.
When I saw that comment from Linda W., Robert, I started grinding my teeth but I had appointments until late last night. Imagine my delight when I realized you socked it to her with facts.
For any of you who want to buy my friend's book, Emotional Vampires, it was published about ten years ago and at one point was the 'number one seller in Brazil'. I have no idea why, but it was. It can be ordered through any of the major book stores if they don't have it on the shelf. It is a really funny book, and one I give to people who seem to be hung up being desanguinated by a 'loved one'. It is particularly valuable for those who have poor self esteem and are seeking 'validation' from a superior (translation: abuser).
Again, we all have a bit of the vampire characteristics in us, but the book is fun.
