Calling All Parents------Question

My sister went for her 8 week checkup a couple days ago.  She had a few questions about her newborn.  He seems fine except that when you hold him in an upright position he always stares straight up.  He refuses to hold his head level.

The doctor suggested we take him to a chiropractor and so we made an appointment.  I have heard of others taking their children to chiropractors but nothing about if it worked for them or not.

Have any of you done this or know someone who has??  Did it help them??

Did the Dr. do any testing of his own?
I've never seen that happen for a newborn, but it does sound like something that should be seen to.

I have never heard of taking newborns to chiropractors. Children maybe, but not newborns. It just seems really strange to me. Hope everything is all right.

Not sure. I actually helped my parents out a great deal by doing that same thing when I was a baby. I kept staring up at the ceiling in their apartment at the time at this dark spot. The dark spot got continuously bigger, which I guess I found interesting. Turns out it was a huge water leak from the apartment above that my parents caught before it leaked through the ceiling.

Failing a giant water spot on the ceiling, I have no idea why this would happen. Good luck!

hard to tell --a lot of newborns like to look at the ceiling--but I've worked with special ed kids to with blance problems. Still a specialist maybe--but a chiropractor?
A chiropractor for a newborn? I think since he's new he'll probably straighten out on his own.
My sister took her newborn to the chiropractors because he wasn't pooping. they fixed him right on up. She was told alot of new borns new adjusted that are a natural birth.

Our daughter has 5 children! They all go to the Chiropractor on a regular basis. They have no real problems, but go any way. She says she feels better.

Have you talked to a pediatric neurologist? One of the little girls in our care (age 3 1/2) walks with a limp and has a weak right side. We are taking her on the 23rd of Oct.

Oh my son had problem with this neck after a car wreck and he seen a reflexologist for massage of his neck but he was 6, but what every you do make use they xray his neck before anyone touches him

I dont think I would ever take my baby to a chriopractor! My daughter had congenital motor nystagmus and they told me with her to take her to a chiropractor and I was like no way! I happened to be at the office of one oneday and she pointed out the nystagmus to me and told me what it was and to tell my peditrition to send her to an eye doctor.

hmmm... my baby girl had her head tilted to the side for a while. It depends how he sleeps and such, but just work with him and he will re-position his head, that's what we did with our girl...we would get her to look at toys near the opposite direct and rubbed her neck... my mom thinks she has a "crick" in her neck and just needing help ...which after 2-3 days she was fine with us working with her.. her head was straight again. lol

I would get a second opinion from a pediatrician first. Does he hold his head staright while laying down?

Maybe when he is being held up your holding under his neck so he relaxes by holding his head upward..

If he does not force his head up while just laying down or something then thats a good sign.

Let us know what you find out! I would like to know myself.

I dont see a problem with taking a newborn to the chiropractor. Not like their going to hurt the baby or something.. they are trained to deal with babies as well as adults. Should be anyways!
