My daughter is in first grade this year in a new school district. Basically they think theyre s*** smells better than roses or something, and I'm seriously over it.
Tati came home from school a few days after school started and said her teacher told her she needs a clear backpack. She has a princess one that I bought her, since she loves all the princesses. Since this is a new district, I made sure to check the district webpage which had a list of all the school supplies the kids needed for each grade, and also the Handbook for the school which has all the rules, etc in it. NOWHERE in either of them did it say she needed a clear backpack.
So the first few times I ignored it. I'm not buying her a new backpack. It's not the money, it's the principle. Maybe I'm being overly sensitive, but if they wanted clear backpacks, it should have been mentioned somewhere. Then I told Tati to tell her teacher that I was not buying her a new backpack, she has one. So the teacher goes to Micaylas class, and tells her that Tati needs a clear backpack. Am I the only one who sees something wrong with this?? Why would she bother my 5th grader during her school day with something stupid like a backpack?? I might mention too, they have my home phone number ,and my cell phone number. Both of them have voicemail. I haven't received any calls from the teacher or anyone else regarding the backpack thing.
Monday she came home with a black mesh backpack, and said the school gave it to her. I was furious. I'm not a charity case, I don't need them to buy stuff for my children. So I kept forgetting to send it back, then yesterday Micayla said that Tati's teacher came to her class again and said she needs to use the backpack they gave her. So I sent a letter to her saying that I'm returning the backpack, and my reasons. I also mentioned that I do not want to hear about Micayla being bothered with questions/comments about Tatiana again, or I'll go to someone higher to get it handled.
Today I sent her to school with the black backpack inside her princess one, along with her other school papers, and the note I wrote to the teacher. She came home this afternoon....(let me breathe for a second before I type this, I can feel my blood pressure rising).....WITHOUT HER PRINCESS BACKPACK!! That (insert bad name) took all the stuff out of her princess backpack and put in the black one, and kept the princess one. She also took all the stuff out, including the note, and put it in the black backpack. but she took out her excuse for being absent yesterday so she saw the note.
I am absolutely furious. I'm shaking I'm so p'd off! Mark had court this morning for a traffic ticket and then stopped at his moms, so I called him and told him to hurry up and get home so I can go to the school. I'm done with it.
Thanks for letting me rant, sorry it's so long lol.

Let me know how it goes.
I've heard lots of schools require clear backapcks and to be honest - I've NEVER seen one so i wouldn't even know where to buy one at!
The kids last year had a class only clear backpack that was sent home 2-3 times a year with each kid with some activities, but we didn't need clear backpacks for them. I've seen other people posting here and on other boards about schools requiring the clear ones, though.
We home School, so we don't have any problems.
I would be furious too.

Your case sounds pretty darned silly. I don't blame you for being furious.
School has gone totally nuts since I was that age in the mid 1980s.
GEEZ!!!!!
Lee, good question. Jessica, how are they treating Tati, and how is this crap affecting your older child that they are harassing?
What is the problem with contacting you? What is her excuse? The teacher is probably going to come up with some lame story that she tried calling you and the phones were disconnected or something. If your 5th grader is not asked to have the same type of backpack then may the teacher wanted it for herself.
Heather T, your mention of no chocolate reminded me of something that happened to a friend of mine.
It's pretty standard in places like Holland and Denmark to eat a thick slice of French bread with an oh-so-THINNNNN layer of chocolate on top, and lots of butter on the bread. A new little Dutch kid started at my friend's school, and brought just such a sandwich. I don't think the parents spoke much English. Unfortunately a teacher took the food AWAY from the child, and he had no lunch that day.
I have been in situations where my mother wanted to give the teachers the benefit of the doubt, and it's gotten pretty far. Mind you it has not gone as far as stolen property, she never let that happen, but it's gotten far enough that I've grown into a "deal with it now or else" lady, not one to sit around and wait to see what happens.
People who don't take action right away only serve to ENABLE the bullies.
