Early this morning, when I woke up, I found this comment on an article I wrote last Spring after visiting Alabama.  It brought a smile to my face.  Gather certainly brings the world together.

"My husband owns the Papa Hunky and it was really a surprise to see the pictures online. He just bought it at the first of the year and he is the one that can tell you the history behind the name. I love the pictures and I'm going to download them in the morning. I also saw the message regarding Forrest Gump, in the movie, he is in bayou la batre and that is where my husband was raised...small world."

When I was in Alabama, whenever we were down by the sea and saw shrimp boats in my mind,  I would start singing an old song I learned long ago.  You know the song:

" Shrimp boats is a-comin, their sails are in sight
Shrimp boats is a-comin, there's dancin tonight

During my week stay with Faith I had shrimp several different times.  No wonder when I got home, I printed out these images and hung them in my bedroom to remind me of that lovely week in April when shrimp was the food of choice.

How about that connection, Bob? I saw the Papa Hunky on the local television news this fall, as they were reporting on how the area down around Coden and Bayou La Batre was preparing for Hurricane Gustav's effects. The boat was being put up in an inland area for protection.

I love shrimp too, Nancy. Zach and I were in the store the other night (Debate night) and Zach looked at this big bag of shrimp and he said "This would be perfect Mom, you and I could eat the whole bag watching our man Obama". Shrimp and Obama what a dreamteam.

The sepia tone is marvelous! And there's history and generations of fishing, drinking, dining and many a good time embedded in those masts, you can feel it in the wood. I can see why you hung them up - they're very evocative of a way of life that has a rhythm and a sense of community that we might not have in the busy city.

I enjoyed this post very much, Elizabeth, and I'm glad you re-posted it.
