I have been reading posts that have been put up by those who want to oppose one political opponent or another. In those posts I have seen blatant lies being repeated over and over again. Does the person who posted them ever stop to check the facts of what they are posting?
Most of what I post of my writings are about myself not about someone else. Any of you who have stopped by and read any of my stuff you will see a few poems, some ramblings about my personal life and what I think about late at night. Other postings have been and are about photography which is a great part of my life and working with photos in Photoshop.
I have just read too many postings lately about politics which make me wonder where that persons reasoning came from other than from the hate files of some hack who cares not what they do to the reputation of a man or woman who has gone beyond a mistake they made when they were much younger. They drege up old mistakes to sling mud at an opponent not because that man or woman did anything wrong but because they want to win an election not on their merits but upon destorying another's reputaion. They can not win on the issues since they have not done anything to fix or have a record that will say they did what was right. Nor say what they would or will do to fix the problems of today when their opponent is saying what he or she would do to fix it. No they want to destroy others not build up this country. They want power not to correct but to continue the same old behind the scenes destruction of this country even though their mouths spout words to the contrary.
Below is a comment I added to one posting after seeing so many people's condemnation of a man who once made a mistake. They do not know this man other than what the hack from some back room has misrepresented about him today. They do not take the time to find out if that man has done anything to correct, apologize, and serve time for his wrong. They jump to the conclusion that once he did wrong then he has not changed since that wrong was done. That he is unrepentant. That he is still a terrorist and association with him makes you a terrorist sympathizer. That even talking with the man makes you dirty and unclean.
I'm ashamed of my fellow citizens of this country where once you were innocent until proven guilty. Now you are convicted before you are given the chance of being judged before a jury. The problem is that what this man is still being condemned for, he can not stand before a judge or jury and convince them he is innocent of being who he once was. Even though he has not done any crimes that I know of since he was a youth he is still being convicted and judged for crimes he committed when he was a youth. "Once a criminal always a criminal" is how you are saying that is how it has to be and is.
In some ways I'm just as glad I live alone and do not come in contact with others all that much any longer. When I see my fellow citizens condemn a man for just being in the room with someone else it makes me sick. They are so perfect that they have never had contact with a criminal, they have never talked with someone who was a terrorist, and they have never done one thing against the law. Give me a break!
My comment on that posting:
I give up...people do not want to believe a person can change from what their life was when they were young...I'm just glad you are not the judges of this country deciding who should be free and who should not be free.
I was a cop and yes I locked up many people who were criminals some never could be rehabilitated but some who use their brains could and were rehabilitated and live lives which are honorable but then there are people who think once you have done a crime you are always a criminal. Those who accuse Ayers of being a terrorist if you never broke one law then cast that stone but if it broke one law you are guilty for the rest of your life as well. See in your way of thinking that is how you are seen by others.
Now you want to associate Obama as a terrorist since he met with a man who once was called a domestic terrorist. A man who changed his life, who has a family, who is a teacher but yet you want to condemn that man for the rest of his life for doing something that at the time to him was right to fight against what he saw as a wrong. Yes, how it fought against that wrong was also wrong. But you want to label the man and destroy all the years he has been a good citizen as nothing. You sicken me with our righteous babbling about him being a terrorist. You should be ashamed of your selves for your talk and I would bet you consider your selves to be good citizens.
You do not care what you are doing to a man who has gone on from what as a youth he did that was wrong. That is like condemning me as having been a cop for another cop having done wrong. Just stop and think what you would feel like if you had corrected, apologized and served your time for the wrong and no one would give you another chance to live a decent life.
But then I do not expect you to even read this nor to think about what you are doing. You judge someone without even knowing that person nor even trying to get to know them. I see so many misstatements of facts that if you were accused of them how would you feel especially if they were false, if they were out right lies???
Give me a break, how many I asked of you who have never done a wrong? How many of you have never broken one law? How many of you have condemned without even taking the time to find out the truth behind your condemnation? Judge yourself first then if you are free of any wrongs throw your stones but remember this one day you too will have to answer for your injustices in one way or another.
:O\
I realize this is just my own opinion but are there not others out there like me who are saddened by people just posting things without even trying to find out if what they post is true or not?

No, I am not judging as that is not my style but just making a point here. I personally don't care who hangs out with who. I hang out with whom I choose and whether they were this or that matters not to me. It is how they are with me that matters.
Sadly, all too many people seem to see the world as a series of 15 second sound bites they got from TV or the internet. Researching a candidate's voting record is just too much trouble.
And Ayers was not an old man when he was a member of the Weathermen, which he is now. All I'm saying is no one even attempted to find out what his feelings are these days. From what I read no one cares what he has done with his life since he was a young man. But they are willing to condemn him today for once having done something stupid as a young man. They are not willing to find out if he teaches what he believed in his youth. They say things without even giving the man half a chance. That is what disgusts me.

I in no way am trying to say what Ayers did forty years ago was right. I was a cop. I would have locked him up for any of what he did. But that was forty years ago not today. Has the man continued to be a terrorist? Can he not live down what he did forty years ago or should he be condemned for the rest of his life?

Jesus hung out with people that others wouldn't. Are you going to judge him?
Then ponder on what they have read maybe they might just understand. I
can see your point of view Robert, many won't try to grasp the reasonableness
on any or all that you have stated. Thank you for being so open and honest.

Their is a big difference between leadership and dictatorship.

He doesn't sound too sorry about it.
The Ayers connection is weak and tenuous, more like "six degrees of separation" than a real link. Ayers is now a respected education professor in Illinois. Many people, including Obama, have "rubbed shoulders" with Ayers in educational projects, including Susan Crown of the General Dynamics Corp. family; Patricia Graham, former dean of the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and Arnold Weber, past president of Northwestern University and of the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago. None of THESE people have been called "radical" or their patriotism questioned because of their "association." (Names from Chicago Sun-Times article).
This subject is irrelevant to the election, in my opinion, or should be! Republicans, aren't there any REAL issues out there you think are worth discussing?
I never asked you to vote or support anyone just to think and research before you condemn anyone for something that you or a friend of yours may have done. If you have no past where you could be locked up for what you did then I am a bit amazed. You see even as a kid I did some stupid things where I could have been locked up.
I'm not saying Ayers is an angel nor that I agree with him. Just that knowing him or talking with him does not make a person a terrorist sympathizer. Being on a committee with him does not make you a party to his ideas. And being the founder of that particular committee does not make you a sympathizer and also supporting McCain like I said, you can look it up who and what. I leave that up to you. I just doubt most will even look.
You condemn Obama for no reason other than he knows Ayres. Yet McCain's past shows he did things where his judgment was not the best for someone in his position as a senator. I would wager that if Obama was white and Republican it would be a different matter. Again just my own opinion.
:O\
There are other places in the Bible - Acts, 1 Corinthians 14 ,etc. - that use the word anakrino. This is directly translated as "to investigate closely" and is commonly translated as the word "discernment." With this we are called to test each other, including and perhaps especially our self-appointed leaders. From this Sens. Obama, Biden, McCain & Gov. Palin are certain not excepted.
Are we all guilty of so-called "youthful indiscretion"? Certainly, and for some of us that indiscretion continued well past "youth". But we are not all running for President of the US are we? And therein lies the issue. I'm not saying that every little detail should sway this election or any other one or that (hypothetical situation inserted for explanatory purposes ONLY) stealing a pack of gum as a 10-year-old should keep one from becoming the most powerful leader in the world. But I am saying that association with a known terrorist and other anti-American people/groups should be examined closely to discern Mr. Obama's (or any candidate's) actual involvement and the affect it could have on his Presidential decision-making. Not addressing major issues such as this is not love and kindness but foolishness and poor stewardship.
Having said that let me close by saying that some, especially using the faceless Internet environment, can display a certain cruelty and cowardice that one does not find to be a prevalent in everyday societal interaction. Unfortunately there is little recourse for defending oneself against those who snipe more-or-less anonymously. The only real response is also offered by Jesus who told us to pray without ceasing. When praying for others it is difficult to stay angry with them or retaliate against them. And one's own soul is spared the extra task of being healed from self-inflicted wounds directed at another.
"Esther, you are judging."
And you're not? What else could that statement be except judgmental?
However, you have provided a very good example for me to illustrate my comment on discernment. In another comment above you chose to forward an unverified and unproven (and quite possibly and unverifiable and unprovable) statement made by one of the candidates simply because you disagree with their politics. How is that any different from what you condemn - that is, how is it different from making claims against the candidates on the other side, especially those that are baseless and unfounded? To repeat hearsay simply because it fits your own view does not forward your cause. Instead, it is irresponsible and slanderous at best. So I say that your fruit has revealed your inner being despite attempts to project the image of a kind and tolerant human being.
On another note. As for the attacks from the McCain campaign why is it that they are doing everything they can to destroy Senator Obama's character and not talking about the issues such as the crisis we as a country are facing? Why is it that they are not giving ways to fix our banking system and credit problems and rather attacking with the slime that they are using?
Just a few questions that I would imagine I will get vitriol rather than real answers to those questions. Probably the same attacks that McCain is using against Obama.
:O\
*** Also ***
"same attacks that McCain is using against Obama."
Please provide exact details of when McCain himself has attacked Obama, except when to pint out differences during the debates and in campaign ads (which are equally matched by negative ads run by the Obama campaign - see below). Not hearsay, not McCain's followers, not those on the fringe - net even Sarah Palin or Cindy McCain. John McCain himself, as I am quoting you. And please do so ONLY if Obama did not do the same thing to McCain.
I can provide examples that show this is a distorted view of reality.
Example:
International Herald Tribune (international version of the NYTimes) - Feb 2008
"...McCain had mocked Obama's grasp of realities in Iraq..."
"Obama, campaigning in Texas, quickly responded."
McCain was the headliner, but who also attacked? That's right, Obama. Nothing less to be expect from the liberals at the NYTimes, but still a warped perspective that tries to show Jon McCain as the ONLY one to offer criticism of the other side.
Example:
The Washington Post, after talking about the two sides trading negative blows had this to say.
"While McCain's advertising is almost 100 percent negative and Obama's is one-third negative, those figures are somewhat misleading. Obama's spending is so great, said Tracey, that he is matching the volume of McCain's negative ads while churning out even more spots of the positive variety."
So it's all perspective, isn't? Obama is so cash flush with contributions (many reportedly questionable) that they can air THE SAME NUMBER OF ATTACK ADS AS MCCLAIN, but because they are not the only as being run they are not as noticeable. Read that again . THE SAME NUMBER. As in OBAMA IS ATTACKING MCCAIN AS MUCH AS MCCAIN IS ATTACKING OBAMA. And this not from Fox News or some other conservative news source. No, it came from that liberal bastion, The Washington Post.
There is another word for using warped perspective and selling it as truth has often been called propaganda. Turns out your man isn't as clean as you claim doesn't it?
And just to be fair, Obama did claim to return $40million in questionable funds, but the number cited was well over $200 million. Why did Obama not return that other $160 million - or at least identify the donors as the McCain side has?

Joe W. there is no reasoning with a closed mind and with "facts" you present since they have been either disproved or are not full quotes of what you present. I have read all of your examples and not one proves your premise as some are out right lies.
:O\
"Judge not, least (sic) ye be judged" is a paraphrased quote from the Bible. ("Judge not, that ye not be judged." Matt. 7:1 KJV). Since the title of this post was a biblical quote, I was merely responding in kind.
James,
I am somewhat confused about the statement that I used "outright lies." I carefully chose reputable news sources, unless you don't consider the NYTimes and the Washington Post to be reputable. Every fact is clearly documented above. I am sorry that you cannot see the truth in that, but I have done all I can to try to shine a light on this subject. Believe what you will and may God bless your path.
