A few years ago I found a little arty crafty sort of shop on the outskirts of York. The lady who ran the shop had some stones, painted to represent different animals. I have always liked tortoises, so asked if she had one. She did'nt, but said I could choose one of her stones and she would paint it for me.

I named him Jimmy because my Mum had a tortoise called jimmy when she was a little girl, so I called him after her pet.

The lady who painted him was very clever, his expression seems to change as you see him from different angles. He looks quite cheeky here!

Sometimes he looks rather shy,

and at other times you catch him just coming out of his shell!

He has green felt on his underside, so he dose'nt slip, because his real job is a door-stop!

Jimmy is a real gentleman, and likes to hold the door open for me!

Now Jimmy is saying goodbye, as you can see he is sad to see you go!

I met a lovely woman who painted critters on rocks and had many rocks painted as frogs. I bought one a week for my daughter in law throughout the season for the Farmers Market I was running. Also a couple of lily pads. I would love to learn to paint them.
Thanks for sharing Jimmy with us.
