I've been in touch with a lot of good natured people in the last eight months.
Walk the walk
and the fact that they mean well, is a given.
Walk the walk
Out of ten churches, one helped us out.
Walk the walk
Out of the 317 job interviews I have had
Walk the walk
I received a majority of "It will get better"s
Walk the walk
and I received a plethora of "God will provide"s
Walk the walk
and I will now quote a line from "Ghostbusters"
Walk the walk
Bill Murray to the college student "we're studying the effect...."
Walk the walk
college student replies "I tell you what the effect is! It's pissing me OFF!"
Walk the walk
The fundamental difference I have with most of these good natured people,
Walk the walk
I don't wait for God to do something kind for others, I just do it myself.
Walk the walk
Matthew 25:40
Walk the walk
"And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."
Walk the walk
and I will now quote my drill sgt. from basic "If you're not part of the solution you're part of the problem"
This is my anthem: HOLD ON

My old grandmother used to say "Self help is the best help".
Mike
Mike you just proved my point of this article.
Thank you so much
My sister was just laid off from a marketing & publishing company that has the word "American" in its name. My sister and the other ad designers were laid off because their jobs are being shipped to India. That doesn't sound very American to me. Not walking the walk, are they?
Since she is 58 and has arthritis, finding another job will be very difficult, even though she is an award-winning designer.
Georgiana S.,
and thankyou for making my point of this aricle
thanks for commenting, I love your insight
you know, the point of this post isn't whether I will survive
I WILL SURVIVE
the point is that while I, a bisexual adult, am doing more to follow the teachings of my mother (and consequentially, Jesus)
"WELL MEANING" people are full of feel good platitudes
which they are not shy about sharing.
Kerrell g.
Love you too
thanks, buddy
Joe what I PREFER is genuine people
I love all people
but genuine people I will help to my last dollar.
Why in the world wouldn't those companies hire you just because you didn't have a car?
Instead, we are interested in filling buildings and not filling hearts...
I can't offer you much but prayer, Fred, but I sent one up now. I'm sorry - I just have very little, so it is all I can share. :)
Best wishes....
Lynn R.,
because I am a forty something W/M
and it's cheaper to hire someone 18-24
with a car
sad, but true
Lisa B,
see, that was genuine
thanks, I need all the prayer I can get
Justice to the left of you
Justice to the right
Speak when you are spoken to
Dont pretend youre right
This lifes not for living
Its for fighting and for war
No matter what the truth is
Hold on to what is yours
Jigsaw puzzle traitors
Set to spill the beans
Constitution screw up
Shattering the dreams
Blood flows in the desert
Dark citadels burning too
Watch! look over your shoulder
This one is strictly for you
Hold on - hold on
Wait maybe the answers
Looking for you
Hold on - hold on
Wait! take you time
Think it through
Yes! I can make it through
Hold on - hold on
Sunshine shine on through
Hold on - hold on
Sunshine shine on you
See it through
Talk the simple smile
Such platonic eye
How they drown in incomplete capacity
Strangest of them all
When the feeling calls
How we drown in stylistic audacity
Charge the common ground
Round and round and round
We living in gravity
Shake - we shake so hard
How we laugh so loud
When we reach
We believe in eternity
I believe in eternity
Hold on - hold on
Wait - take your time
Sunshine shine on through
See it through
Hold on - hold on
Wait - maybe a chance
Sunshine shine on through
Is looking for you
Sunshine shine on you
Hold on - hold on
Hold on - hold on
Sunshine - shine on shine on you
Sunshine - shine on through
Sunshine - shine on shine on through
Sunshine - shine on you
Sunshine - shine on - shine on you
Hold on - hold on
Sunshine - shine on through
Wait - take your time
See it through
Sunshine - shine on - shine on through
Hold on - hold on
Sunshine - shine on you
Wait - maybe the answers looking for you
so true!

Personally, I do my charitable giving directly to those whom I think need my help. I don't use other organizations.
Keep up the good fight, Fred. You know that we are wishing you well.
"surge,surge,surge"
I have done so for the last 13 years as a single Mom with small children to take care of. Stay true to yourself.
I know you aren't asking for a handout, just a hand at times, Fred. No shame in that. The fact they you haven't given up says a lot about your core.
My homeless friend in WVA called me last night. I know she would never say what you've said here with "Walk the walk" but I'm starting to hear it in her voice. Her own church hasn't done anything to assist her, but they'll "pray for her." People have been praying for her all year and as far as I can tell, it's done nothing. We give her a hand when we can, and like you, she hasn't given up.
MJ,
No, you're right I'm not
What I am asking for is a job.
I'm not like the man I was named after
(maternal Grandfather)
he said he was going to atlanta during the depression looking for a job.
never came back.
I'm looking for a job, so that I CAN take care of my family
He ended up in arizona, remarried
had four kids
and died
my mom was too embarrassed to tell us
what really happened
because it would put a wrench into the "Faith" which she and my dad espoused
If I can do anything please let me know. I'll be thinking of you...
I've mowed grass
I've painted walls
I've helped an elderly disabled woman
I've went to the grocery store for a shut in
not for money, because that's how I was raised.
and in return god has blessed me,
our lights have been close to being turned off six times
but not once have they turned them off
I've been offered jobs in marketing and consulting,
was told I was the most qualified person for the job
but without a car they won't hire me. sorry.
I've gotten a lot of "sorries" since January
but I keep on keeping on.
That is the fundament difference between me and those people who "mean well"
cute, inspirational emails won't put food on the table.
SORRY
Jennifer B.,
a job.
If you could do one thing for me?
a job
I only need $100/week to shore up our financial difficulties
a job
it's my prayer every night
I can't offer you a job,
I know people offering Prayers and Positive thoughts can seem trite to anyone in your situation.
All I can offer is the same thing right now, which is to tell you to Never Give Up, try your best to keep a good attitude (I know how f'ing hard that can be at a time like this).
I hope and Pray that something good comes your way soon.
As an aside though, do most people ask you about your transportation in interviews?
I don't believe that should be of concern to them if it is not a delivery job or one that requires a car.
Best of luck Fred.
One way I have been economizing is frequent use of the library - I used to buy many books - stopped doing that.
The last book I read was BAIT AND SWITCH by Barbara Ehrenreich. I suggest it to all, but it will not cheer up Fred or anyone else. But it will make clear that this problem is systemic in our society and may effect millions.
The author creates an fake identity for herself and poses as a well educated 40ish woman who is trying to reenter the job market. She has a car, flies all over for interviews, pays lots of money for coaching of all types. Her story is fascinating.
Education is great, but we should soft peddle it a little when talking to young people. Some fields are HOT - healthcare is one. Many are not - don't think I'd being working on the Real Estate License now, but that will probably come back - but who knows when.
THE POINTS DEPOT
Trust me, I know that things are not just handed to you. I also know that most of the time if you put forth the effort, ask for God's help and guidence, things do get better. It takes a lot longer than we think it should. I will continue to keep you in my prayers. Good luck to you Fred.
I know fast food is not the way most people would go, but if it's the ONLY thing you can get than you have to do what you have to do!
I have to say what ever the difficulties you find yourself in there is always someone who is in worse shape out there! How about our Vets coming home missing limbs with no job and no job prospects to speak of with families to take care of.
I know Walk the Walk. In most cities around this country you can find people and or groups that are set up to help others in need, no matter what that need might be. Yes it is true that allot of those groups are in-fact churches or at least church based, but what you may not understand is that most churches give to these groups as well taking there ability to help away. I know it sounds odd but most churches don't have the staff to check out the need nor to fix them.
Walking: either finding these groups on line or within some of the offices of some help groups there are lots of times large list of help groups and what they can help with.
I'm greatly saddened that at least someone hasn't tried to work with you before now. If you really need help with something please feel free to e-mail me and ask (letting me know your needs) I will try my best to help you in any way I can!
