Florida Woman Fired for laughing!!!

That is disgusting and disheartening for so many reasons.

This is hard to believe, that boob of a boss need his head examined!

That is totaly rediculous!! Of course if I were your boss or hers I would probably be considered more rediculous as I would require you to laugh as often as was reasonably acceptable and that you took as many breaks as you want as long as your customers came first and you got your work done in a timely manner. And then I would require you to have a get together with your constituents and gripe and complain about your un-sympathetic customers ort me. Oh well so you think I'm loony. I bet my employees would never quit. Oh did I mention I would give them a quarterly bonus for making there boss and customers happy?

Maybe she had the most annoying, disgusting, loud, obnoxious laugh you ever heard. One of those snort through your noses kind of laugh.

Some people are so stupid!

Unfortunately Florida is a state where they can fire you for anything (not race, sex or age). But what a crappy customer. I would never get someone fired over laughing. If there is a bar in the restaurant (which there was because that was where she was laughing) then it is NOT a quite environment. Jerk needs to eat in his car if he wants quiet.

I couldn't agree more with Alex. Like I said before, it the customer wants a quiet atmosphere, eat in a Fine Dining establishment!! But, at a Grille where there is a bar??? I can't believe a manager would actually fire someone for that. Of course there's always the possibility that there was something else going on with the employee's performance and this was perhaps just the final straw. Never can count on getting the WHOLE story.

You know, I was fired once, when I was about 19. I worked at Fleming Foods in San Antonio, and when I hit my 90 days, my boss called me into his office. He started telling me what a great employee I was, always on time, never out sick, learned very quickly, worked well with all my co-workers. I was thinking, wooooo! Then he said, but you're going to have to find another job, because I just don't like you.

I was floored. It's the most bizarre excuse for letting someone go I'd ever heard, until now. lol

My laugh used to bug my ex-boss too. Everyone in the firm would be sharing a laugh and he would specifically call me on my extension to tell me that he can hear me laughing from his office. I'm glad that I don't have to work in that environment anymore.

sounds like discrimination to me

Sounds to me like a restaurant where I would not want to eat. I like eating at places where the staff looks and sounds happy, and if I am at a place with a grill, boisterous laughter is quite reassuring. I don't want some stressed-out, laughter-police-threatened person fixing my food or bringing it to me... not only is it not right for someone to have to work in that atmosphere, and unfair for that person to be subjected to that level of stress, but I don't want that kind of negative-energy atmosphere around me or anything I am taking into my body! It's a psychological thing. That grouchy guy who didn't like hearing laughter should not be allowed to infect the whole restaurant with his bad attitude. The manager not only did wrong by his employee, to whose defense he should have come, he did wrong by all of his other customers, too. Shame on him for both!
