Another Store Closing What Is Happening In Your Town Or City

A sign of the times, and the domino effect of the economy.  Another 30 year old furniture store in Las Vegas, is closing its doors.  The banners just went up for the close out sale.  Harrah's just announced, a 1,000 employee layoff, after an earlier layoff a few months ago.

Just curious and to get away from "politics" for awhile.

If you have a store closing, or a company that you know that is laying off, or reducing hours for their employees, would you post it below, so we can get a true picture of the rest of the USA and/or overseas too.. Is your town or city experiencing similar?

As most people already know, the state of MI is in big trouble since Detroit is going bust and what car part plants are left are going out of the country for cheaper labor!! It's a sad mess!!

We have had many in our town:

Save A Lot
a consignment shop (can't remember the name)
Pet Supplies Plus
Various restaurants and little shops

And of course, GM and the constant layoffs they have.

Brassington Cadilac in Gainesville, Florida just closed it's doors after 96 years.

Local five and dime closed recently, local gifts shop closed recently, there is little left except the Wal Marts, Home Depots and Targets. I am not sure which Main Street we are saving, it seems Main Street is all Wall Street big businesses.

Ebay just announced laying off 1000 jobs in California.

We havent had to many closings recently... Ours has been happening over the years.... We had a couple of factories, this year go out of business . GM is always in turmoil here.... but our jobs has been leaving for years... but new ones usually comes along... I live in Wv A suburb of DC>

Linens and Things is having a going out of business sale now and I'm waiting to see what Circuit City will do after the holdiay season. The worst part is that they are constantly putting up new shopping malls when there are building sitting empty for years. We just got a brand new Raymore and Flanagan furniture store, but I don't see many cars in their lot. The only stores that seem to be doing much business are the grocery stores and Walmart. We have had a lot of shutdowns - three businesses in town, my husband's work is cutting hours, and many companies are laying people off.

Seems there is a story in my local paper every day featuring a new store or business closing down. But they don't seem to ever post anything about new jobs coming to town. I heard there is a New Sams club being opened in my town and a Lowe's distribution center. So there are still some new jobs in the area but those things are NEVER reported in the paper.
