Since I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease (thyroid gland inflamation that caused my thyroid to shut down,) I've also been plagued with high cholesterol. With a proper dose of thyroid medicine, it finally came down some, but still hovered around 230-240.
My test results this week showed....
drum roll, please...
195!
I'm so happy and intent on knocking that number down even further.
How did I do it?
It's a combination of efforts. First, I participatedi n (and still utilize) the basic principles of The Tea Diet Challenge (see http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?articleId=281474977434167&nav=MyGather ) This has helped me to lose some weight (hopefully more to go!)
I added moderate exercise to my weekly routine (walking 3x's a week 2-3 miles)
and I try to eat a handful of almonds or mixed nuts 3-4 times a week as a snack instead of pretzels, chips, etc. plus I try to eat fish once a week, particularly salmon.
That's it. They are all small changes that were easy to incorporate into my lifestyle and easy to maintain. Which, I happen to think is key- at least for me. If it feels like I have to work at it or change too much, I'm likely to abandon it.
The proof is in the numbers- you can make simple changes and help turn your health around.
I'm now going to try adding fish oil supplements and/or flax to my diet and see if that helps, as well. I'll report back and let you know if it makes a difference.
We can do it!
Hugs,
Barb

Now I am preparing for good health two decades ahead again.
I do what you have suggested above and it feels good to know that I am on the right tract. And yes, I am quite a tea lover again.
