Trick or Treaters in Oxford Massachusetts Get tricked instead of treats this year!

Trick-or-treaters in Oxford Massachusetts must wait until November 1st to go trick or treating this year!

The reason is officials in Oxford announced that kids will only be allowed to go trick-or-treating on November first, instead of October 31st. The reason is that last year the town passed a policy that if on a year that Halloween falls on a friday, it must be pushed back to a saturday, and that just so happend this year.

Some residents and town officials hope that it will keep the children safer, due to less traffic and commotion.

Some resident's (especially children) are happy about the change, because they get to go trick or treating twice, and you KNOW they will.

I don't know about you, but I think that this is completely un-needed, and I have been trick or treating when I was a child and going with my son as well and I have never had an incident.

Just as long as you trick or treat with some common sense,

-Go with your children.

-Stay in groups.

-Carry flashlight.

-Don't go to the creepy house!!

-Share your chocolate with MOM!!!

I find it ridiculous that a lot of cities don't celebrate halloween on halloween anyway(with the exception of it falling on a sunday, which i can understand that.)

In our town Trick or Treating is always on Halloween, but in nearby towns, some of them have it on the first Saturday following. One year we went Tricker or Treating here, and then went the following day in my Sister in Laws neighborhood, the kids cleaned up, and I got a lots of exercise, kind of a win, win.

This is just totally bizarre. Trick a Treatin' on November 1st? Sometimes you wonder where people's heads are. Next they will be banning Halloween all together. Crazy world we live in!

I for one would vote against such rediculous town law.

I swear there are real live "fun police" that are trying to take away the fun from everyone.

I don't like that many of the Holidays have been changed.
I've heard of them bumping it if it landed towards the end or start of the week, but still a regular week night- like if it was a Monday, the town doing it on Saturday, etc. We've never run into that issue. Last year, we trick or treated a few times, though- once at hubby's office on the Friday before Halloween, once on the Saturday before Halloween at the mall, once at the Zoo on the Sunday before Halloween, and once on Halloween at another mall. Because they went so much, we limited Halloween night. It was a school night, and the mall near Nick's office was doing trick or treating from 4pm-6pm. Ideally, so kids could go there, then go out to trick or treat like normal. We headed back home for an early night, though. I made homemade pizza, we watched Halloween movies, and the kids were MUCH less wound up than they had been.

What they aren't advertising in these news reports is that Oxford also stated that if Halloween falls on a Monday, that the trick or treat day will be on Sunday. I thoroughly agree with this, especially if they do it in the afternoon. Kids up here have no sense of looking at the street to see if a car is coming, they all just dart out into the street. I live right by Oxford. A lot of Massachusetts parents REALLY suck on teachign their kids rigth from wrong and how to cross the street. Traffic on Friday nights is horrendous in this area because people are trying to travel, etc. It's not far from the Masspike, Interstate 84, and then Rte 20 and I 395 runs right through Oxford. I hate driving home on Halloween night because I don't feel safe. Of course I have to drive through Oxford to get home too.

I think the kids just got an extra halloween out of it. What type of enforcement is the town going to provide when trick or treaters go out on Friday? I can't imagine any enforcement that would be legal, so it seems like a waste of effort that probably cost the citizens a bit, if only for the time of the meeting(s) held. Total waste. I know if I were a kid, I'd be double-dipping!

I appreciate your perspective on the situation, BUT not all Massachusetts parents are like that. People are like that all over the country, not just Mass.
I will be taking my son out trick or treating.


These kids will be getting double the amount of candy this year, I am sure their dentists appreciate the law!

Lena, Halloween is my FAVORITE holiday!

I always felt cheated, seems like it is over too soon!!!

Oh yeah, I'd be going twice for sure. LOL. That really is ridiculous to change it from a Friday to a Saturday and what a waste of money in deciding that.

That is weird. We are going on Friday around here. I think it will be fun for kids though. Two days of fun. What more can you ask for.

I don't have kids, but if I did, I would send them out everywhere to get all the candy. Then, I would pick out the best for myself and dole out the little ones maybe a now or later every Saturday. (just kidding...)

I wouldn't think that changing from Friday to Saturday would really make a difference...
