Everyone has been lamenting over this for a while now, however it really hit me today. The past few times I've gone grocery shopping, it was just to pick up an item or two, so I really didn't notice the price difference.
I do one really big shopping trip a month, then go back whenever I need perishables like milk or eggs(or things we go through a ridiculous amount of, like cheese). Today was the large shopping trip and it was nearly $65 more than it was 2 months ago. That's insane! I'm starting to collect coupons again after our move and didn't have many to use today. I guess I need to start collecting coupons like a madwoman to save as much as possible.
The only good thing is that there are 2 grocery stores within 2 blocks of me, one in either direction from my apartment complex so I'm able to shop the sales. Still though, $65? That's a lot of increase for 2 months and not that much more stuff.
The one thing that I noticed that had really gone up in price(or more so than anything else) is orange juice. I got one of the big Tropicana jugs(Calcium kind if that makes a difference) and it was $6.19 That's outrageous I think.
What things have you noticed have gone up considerably in your area? Are you doing anything to cut back, like buying less of the item or trying to find coupons? Help me save my grocery bill!

Today, we mostly stuck to things that were on sale. There were a few things that we have to get even when they aren't on sale, like milk, cheese and a few produce items. We also got some meat that wasn't on sale, because we were running low on ground meat and the meat I use in stews. We didn't buy any canned items that weren't on sale, though, or any snack items that weren't on sale. We're just lucky that we have room to store a lot of stuff if we find great deals. We have a fairly large pantry in our basement, along with both a chest freezer, and an upright. We also have as much food storage space in the kitchen and dining room as a lot of people have in their whole house. That allows us to buy things we go through a lot of (like mushrooms, granola bars and canned fruit) by the case when we can find a good deal.
I cook meals for five in my home, pretty much 7 days a week.
I am pretty frugal. I was a military wife for 12 years,
until my husband got out of the service. (You really learn to save when you need too, which is almost always)
I had stopped using coupons for awhile & just shopped with meals planned, but
that is now hard to do. I am also going back to coupons.
I get the adds every Tuesday for the major grocery chains. I look them over before I shop, & head right to the "marked down" section in out meat department. (a very small area)
For cerea,l for my kids, I buy what is on sale. I also buy oatmeal & I make that ahead of time if I can. For milk, I buy a gallon and then a few cans of evaporated milk. I replace the milk in the gallon with evaporated milk & water. (when it has run out)
