Submitting your blog or Gather Group to the search engines can be a tedious task, but luckily there are some great tools that can make this process easy. One of the easiest free submission tools is Pingomatic. Pingomatic is a blog search engine pinging tool that automates the process of pinging many different blog search engines with a single submit.
Search engine pinging is a must for any serious blogger. Pinging the blog search engines tells the search engines that you have new content that should be crawled and indexed. For a blog focused around the news cycle or current events pinging is the best way to get your content submitted quickly. Blog search engines pay close attention to pinging. It’s no good for a blog search engine to know about your great post on last night’s debate 3 weeks from now. For a blog search engine to be relevant they must provide fast, up to the minute relevant results. So go ahead and start pinging.
Using Pingomatic is easy, just enter your blog name, URL, and RSS URL into the fields and hit “Send Pings” button. Once you have submitted your pings you can also bookmark the page to make future pings even easier. You should ping the search engines anytime you have new a new post or content.
You can also ping directly many of the search engines also. Google blog search and almost all of the major blog search engines provide public API’s to do this. Most also make it easy to ping using a REST implementation too.

Just drag the links below and drop them into your browser shortcut toolbar. Whenever you are on your group homepage, just click button in your toolbar and you are done. Easy?

Internet Explorer: Right click each of these links and choose "Add to Favorites". Create these in your "Links" folder.
To use these on Gather, just go to any Gather group homepage and click them from your toolbar.

I got a whole slew of error messages trying to run
it on my blog. Sometimes it just died, other times
it produced different errors being reported by the
server it runs on. After 7 attempts it finally returned
a list of search engines it supposedly with my blog.
... we'll see ...
