Well, many of those who have known me for any length of time have heard me express my disdain, dislike and generally less than favorable attitude towards politics and politicians.
You've all heard me refer to the election process as "voting for the lessor of two evils".
People will say that we have more than just "red and blue". There's the Libertarians, Green Party, and many others who have "organized" themselves with a devoted following. I'm sorry... But almost all of those "third party" candidates worry me more than the key turning monkeys in the missile silos at NORAD. I don't count them. Just about the only alternative candidates I have ever given the time of day to regarding giving them any serious consideration are the ones running as an "independent". Those are the ones that I will stop and take the time to find out what they are all about.
One of these independent candidates that I'm jumping on with them on their bandwagon is Brian White. Who the heck is Brian White you may ask? I'm glad you asked. Brian White is neither "red" nor "blue". He is a midwestern guy. He's a devoted husband and daddy. He is not happy with the status quo in Washington. He's a man who I've shaken hands with, talked with and feel that this is a man who will be a true voice for the Second District in Iowa.
I have missed many opportunities to 'walk' with Brian in parades over the summer. But I was finally able to do so September 26th. The University of Iowa Homecoming Parade.
We were entry 97 of something like 110. The parade began at about 5:45 pm. We finally moved out to enter the parade around 6:30 pm. The parade route was plotted out at roughly 10 blocks in distance. According to Google maps (linked above) the 10 block route (0.7 mi) should only take "about 13 minutes".
I can't begin to recall the number of times I said "Brian White, independent for U.S. House of Representatives" as I handed out flyers for his campaign. Between trying to hand out as many flyers as possible, it was very easy to fall behind the group. I had to run to catch up multiple times.
We finally got to the end of the parade route around 7:30. I think it took us about 1 hour to walk 10 blocks.
Overall, I had a good time. I felt good. I believe that I did my part to get Brian White's name known in Iowa City as a viable alternative to the status quo.
If you are tired of the 'red' and 'blue', consider White!
I'm Michael Ciha and I approve this candidate.
