I tried to post this the other day and for some reason it didn't go through so I'm going to try again. I wanted to tell you guys the reason I started Patches' Pet Pals. A few years ago, my little cat, Patches, was born with an umbillical hernia and I had no money for an operation for her. I decided to email several rescue organizations to see if anyone could help me. A woman read my email and offered to pay for the surgery. Then, she blackmailed me for having more cats than I was legally allowed to and threatened to have my babies taken away if I didn't do as she said.
I had to put up with that woman for almost two years and finally the situation resulted in my having to put several of my cats in a kennel for over a year to protect them. During the time that I had to spend three hours each week on a bus to go visit my babies, I came up with an idea to start an organization to help people who found themselves in a situation where they love their animals but simply didn't have money for medical care or a way to get their animal to a vet to get them spayed and neutered.
I didn't want to simply create a non-profit that was dependent on people's generosity but wanted an organization that was, in a sense, self-sufficient by offering designs with animals on things like greeting cards, t-shirts, coffee mugs and more. That way people could purchase the items and we could raise the money and use the profits to help animals in need.
I've created a web site that I'm still working on called www.patchespetpals.com. I haven't had time to put a link to my online store yet but if you'd like to help out and get something with an animal on it (I do personalized things, too), then you can go to www.whimsyoriginalsonline.com and visit the Patches' Pet Pals section. All the profits of everything sold in that section will go to help animals.
I'll write more about why this is so important later but I wanted to at least get this out.
