Couponing is very easy but does take a bit of time in the beginning. Once you get the hang of it, it becomes a natural thing to do.
One of the best and most dependable places to find coupons is in your Sunday Papers.
You can download many coupons online but before you do, you will want to make sure your stores accept them.
After you find where the best places to get coupons are - start making out your grocery list.
If you have a CVS nearby, it is worth your time to learn how to make money with your purchases - Yes I said MAKE Money. It is possible more often than than you think.
Now you need to have a list of the stores you shop at and learn all you can about their coupon & rain check policies as well as if they honor coupons from other stores.
Gather all that information and you are ready to gather your coupons and make your list to save on all those items that are on sale that you USE. Key word "USE".
Now may be a good time for you to join my Group Called CVS, Rite Aid and More. You will find lots of tips there for shopping at RiteAid, Walgreen, CVS and so many other places. Amanda "middle of nowhere" C. is a moderator for the group. You may want to connect with her as well.
Sign up for FREE club card in every store you shop at even if you don't purchase very much. USE THEM.. ALWAYS USE THEM. You can sign up for most of them at the check out counter. Remember to sign up for them BEFORE you make any purchases. They will usually give you your cards immediately and sometimes even a discount on your next purchase. Woo Hoo. .
I will post a few links to get online coupons in part 2 of this series. Now off to do your homework. :)

I try to keep a running total of what items cost in the stores I frequent so I know where the best deal is(and where to use my coupon). Sure it's only a few cents, but I put all those cents into a huge jar and take a trip with it every year.

There is another really good one for total newbies to couponing:
www.grocerygame.com -- this one has a small fee, but it's small and totally worth it - you will save bunches. I promise.
I strayed since we were moving & not buying much at all - but now I am going full force again.
After three years, I've finally learned how to control the grocery bill--we're spending less now than when we first got married, and we have a child now, who is still in diapers!
