**Please take this tongue in cheek, it is not my intention to offend anyone**
Â
The other day my husband and I were having a conversation in the car when he sprung something on me that I thought was too out there to be anything but a joke. Here is how the conversation went:
"Did you hear P.E.T.A. thinks milking cows is inhumane and they are trying to get cow's milk replaced with breast milk?"
"What? Matt, that is the stupidest thing I have ever heard, you are messing with me right?"
"Nope I am serious."
"Seriously, how would they do that?? Not every woman produces milk, not to mention the different kinds. What would they use skinny girls for skim milk and the big mamas with the basketball boobies down to their knees for the whole?"Â
Matt's parents were with us in the car and they also thought he was pulling one over on me, at this point his Mom chimes in, "Do you have to smash them in a dresser drawer to get condensed milk?"Â
I laughed so hard at the visual I was almost crying, "What about evaporated milk, how do they pull that one off?"Â
At which my hubby chimes in, "I don't wanna know how they make cheese"
and my father- in - law "Grandpa and I will volunteer to be the milkers"
I can barely talk from laughing so hard. Tears flowing I choke out "I am not EVEN going to comment on how they get different flavors..."
We laugh and continue joking at the sheer idiocy of this new idea, including "Does this mean the silicone inserts they sell at Victoria's Secrets are now going to be considered take out ?"
This continues and I was highly amused thinking my husbands family is really fun and amusing to hang out with (which they still, in fact are quite fun, just they didnt' make this up). This morning my husband emailed me this link: http://blog.peta.org/archives/2008/09/breast_is_best.php, and showed me that he in fact was not messing with me and that P.E.T.A. is SERIOUSLY petitioning to replace cows milk with human breast milk.
Laughing again........
Please chime in and let me know your thoughts on this one!
If the above link did not work please try this one: http://blog.peta.org/archives/2008/09/breast_is_best.php
Is it just me or does this seem a bit over the top?
Â
My husband thinks it would be great if this happened because then the farmers would kill/sell all their dairy cows since they wouldn't have any other use for them and the price of steaks/red meat would fall through the floor. LOL

Peta, come on!
Leave the cows alone.
Silly Peta, breast milk is for babies.
This story was listed in and linked from Humor Monday Update - 09/29/2008
I've had a cow/calf operation before, there is no forced pregnancy there... those cows want it, it's part of their survival instinct. AI is expensive and used almost exclusively for purebred ranching which is not as extensive as dairy or cow/calf operations. And I just dare any of you to try to force a cow to do something she doesn't want... it's not so easy.
Oh, and PETA, women have to be pregnant too to produce the rich milk needed for feeding their babies. Let's see, we shouldn't use cows because it's forced labor on a domestic animal, but it's okay to do that with women...
I agree with Sharon, a man had to have come up with this. You're right Kimber, this falls under the category of you've GOT to be kidding me. Thanks for the laugh this morning.
Thank you for posting to Point Whore! Wishing everyone many, many points!
Seriously though, I think PETA needs to pick a different battle. This subject is just way to milky, I mean murky!
I've worried about PETA a bit ever since they said that people should not dye poodles pink, not because of any danger from the dye, but because "it embarrasses the dogs."
I admit dying poodles pink is somewhat silly no matter how safe the dye is, but I simply have never seen any dog look embarrassed about its looks.
Peta shouldnt be so against eating animals. With no animals vegetables like them would be next.
If the dairy industry was stopped dead right now ... like all the cows just dropped over dead or stopped making milk ... a huge portion of our economy would go out of business. It would have a drastic effect on our economy. Milk and milk products are used in a very high percentage of foods, not even counting the recognizable milk products like cream, evaporated milk, regular varieties of milk, cheeses, etc.
I used to think PETA was a good idea until I really read what was on their website. I read where one of their main objectives was to "free all animals" including our pets. They would like it to be illegal to own any animal at all. No cats, dogs, birds, etc. in homes or cages. No horses being ridden, no cows making milk, no hunting, nothing. No population control, either.
I had no idea the main group was that radical. I thought it was fringe, but unless I was reading the wrong website, that is in their main set of objectives.
I agree that we treat our food animals horribly. I agree that running a dairy farm like a factory means the cows are treated as objects rather than living creatures. I agree that we should not be feeding our food and dairy animals hormones to make them grow faster or make more milk. Animals didn't used to be treated so poorly. Farmers (and there were many) took care of their animals because if they didn't, they lost money. Cattle must be fed well to gain weight. Now, we're feeding our beef cattle mostly high-carb corn and growth hormones, and I believe we're seeing the effects of doing this in our human population.
Now, big factory farms have put all the small farmers out of business. If the factory farms quit tomorrow, we'd be in big trouble. But it's turning out that the factory farm techniques just might not be so good for us.
As for human breast milk, we Westerners attach way too much sexuality to breast feeding and human milk production. Human milk is THE BEST WAY to feed infants. That's what we evolved to eat. Any bottled product is an *approximation* and just not as good. Look at the thousands of Chinese children and infants who were sickened by their own country's greed. If those people were not becoming Westernized and bottle feeding their babies, that would not have happened. Human breast milk is designed to grow intelligent humans. Cow milk is designed to grow muscles so the babies can run away from predators. Human milk has a MUCH higher ratio of fats, and brains are 66% fats. In fact, if you feed your baby low-fat milk, it will grow up mentally deficient.
Human milk is only disgusting to us because we are breast-fixated (as sex objects) and perhaps because something in our evolution has taught us to save the milk for the babies.
I happen to really like milk and milk products. I, too, would be rather grossed out by the thought of drinking human milk, but let me tell you if it was do that or starve, I'd certainly drink it! :)
I'm appalled at the direction our country has taken over the last 50-80 years. Bigger is not always better. In fact, bigger seems to be NOT better a lot of the time. But the way things are now, we don't have enough people/land to feed us all using traditional farming methods. It's something to think about ... if we could suddenly get no more gasoline, the factory farms would be out of business, and we'd have a famine on our hands, since farms use gas-powered tractors, tillers, harvesters, etc.
Gives a new meaning to why buy the cow when you can get the milk (for free)
It's their way of trying to say that milk from cows is also gross.
But, it's just silly.
I think the convo with your inlaws and husband is just plum hilarious.
This is just too weird.
I also plan on starting a dairy ranch soon in anticipation of the new laws =D
A couple of weeks ago I read something else related to this subject which I think you guys might find interesting.. a Swiss chef uses breastmilk for his sauces:
http://blogs.parentcenter.babycenter.com/momformation/2008/09/19/breastmilk-is-bestfor-creamy-sauces-at-this-swiss-restaurant/?intcmp=promoslice_pos7
"the nipple is too big for the babies mouth"???? LOL I was a La Leche League Leader for 15 yrs and I NEVER had anyone complain about that. Breastmilk only up to the age of 6 month is strongly supported by the World Health Organization and for good reason.
Rest easy
i'm not too excited about this milk thing... eewwww...
tho you set the links ready for all the argu-laugh
away loud for all the heart's fill !!
thank you Kimber greatly for the PETA try all sense
to humor out of man-woman kind !!!
Tell Hubby to be careful with that slaughter all of the cows for cheap steak thing. If PETA gets a hold of that they are going to put out a new memo that says "we do not feel it is humane to slaughter cows for any reason. However we do understand the need that Americans have for red meat. We now feel however that humans should be put into a lottery and the ones that lose will now become "the new Red Meat"!! ;-)
I mean, if I think about drinking cow's milk it totally grosses me out....
Very funny conversation!
But it did remind me that it is possible for men to produce milk. HERE is a link to information regarding 'male lactation.

It's also the dumbest proposal I've ever heard. A cow can make several gallons of milk a day. I had over-supply syndrome, and I made an unheard-of 100 ounces in a day. That isn't even a SINGLE gallon! Most women make on average of 20-30 ounces of milk a day. Go ahead! Try that on for size! My kids drink over 40 ounces a day now!
Dropping by with a 10 for you
