Reflections is a cultural arts programed sponsored by the National PTA. There are 6 different categories -- Literature, Musical Composition, Photography, Visual Arts, Film/Video Production, and Dance Choreography. Usually this is an optional competition, but some teachers make this mandatory. Angela gets extra credit in a couple of her classes if she participates, so she is.
Angela is doing photography (of coarse). This year's theme is "Wow!" That is all the kids are given. The kids have to come up with what they feel fits the theme.
Here are the 2 photos Angela is turning in tomorrow (and the darn things had to be shrink wrapped...what a pain in the tush that was). Angela had to do everything...even send them over to Walmart to be printed. That part was a pain, because I had to stand over her telling her how to get the photo from the computer over to Walmart.com. Then I had to explain how to edit it (basically just cropping and enlarging), since the prints needed to be 8 x 10.
The kids have to write an artist's statement on how the photo relates to the theme. I'll include that after the photo (if I can find it on the computer).

Title: Wow = Weird or Weirder
A praying mantis is not a common insect, especially a green one. Looking at one up close is really neat and weird. There is so much detail on a mantis that you can't see unless you are up close and personal. A mantis looks like it is a weird alien species and makes you say Wow!

(The final photo on this one is cropped some I think)
Title: Bow-WOW!
My dog is a rescue dog that was severely beaten and abused. I rescued her a year and a half ago. It is so amazing that she now lets me dress her up and take her picture. When we got Maggie she never barked, but when someone tried breaking in our house, she started barking and scared the robber away. Maggie's story is so WOW.
Tomorrow she turns them in....and who knows when she'll hear anything....but the extra credit will be worth it.

She is taking right after her momma. These are awesome shots. Little squirt takes much better pictures than I do.
I miss you!!
How did you all do at the fair? I never heard.

I liked both photos, but Maggie's photo is . . .
well. . . WOW!
I just read your tagline that you can't get any gas? We have enough here - want me to mail you some? I KNOW it's Hazmat, but maybe in an empty few milkjugs? Who'd know? :)
