Hudson Valley Garlic Festival

Entrance - Market St, Saugerties NY 10 AM 9/28/08

On the last full weekend in September every year, tens of thousands of garlic lovers GATHER in Saugerties NY to celebrate all things GARLIC!
    From humble Shale Hill Farm beginnings when Pat Reppert invited a few friends  for an afternoon "end of the season herb sale and celebration of garlic", the Hudson Valley Garlic Festival grew into a two day, 55,000 visitors event of MAJOR proportions last year. This year, with gray skys and wet forecasts the attendance will be half that. Still, the food, garlic, music and good family fun will be the same - FANTASTIC!         And the whole Town of Saugerties reeks of GARLIC yet another year!
I'm minding the Saugerties Area Chanber of Commerce booth this afternoon, then breaking it down, packing up Ed's electronic equipment and going home to finish packing for Sardinia. Have a GREAT WEEK, Everyone!!

I love garlic. I bet that smells wonderful. It looks like a lot of fun. We have a garlic festival in Grilroy California, but I have never gone.

I too love Garlic. My Hubby used to say that i wouldn't be able to cook if i didn't use garlic and onions, lol Thanks for sharing.

I love any excuse to go to a festival. Cant wait for our own scarecrow festival in a couple weeks.

Sue, your Gilroy festival is the largest in the US (universe?) ours is the largest in the Northeast. It is also the annual meeting of the Northeast Garlic Growers Association, which means we get 20-30 different varieties of garlic for sale, hard and soft neck, white to pink, spicy to mild, small to elephantine - it's fab-tastic!

I've heard of the Gilroy festival and thought of making a pilgrammage there some time...this would be closer! (garlic is one thing I couldn't do without!)

I love garlic and have always used tons of it fresh. Now that I have to lose sodium in my diet, garlic powder is getting more important, too. I bet that festival is wonderful!

How cool - a garlic festival - that would definitely be my kinda event.
I could so wrap myself around a garlic festival! We have an extensive garlic bed in the back of our property, so we generally have an abundance. When the weather is warm the whole area just "reeks" of it! I love it!

This looks like a great time and you really captured it well!

That looks like a lot of fun, Richard. I've been to the Gilroy Garlic Festival several times. It would be fun to see the differences in other parts of the country. Safe travels to Sardinia.


(I'd love to have that garlic balloon though!)
