This morning began with heavy fog over the lake. Had I wanted to snap some fall color shots, I'd have been out of luck!
It was very still and quiet....somewhere between peaceful and eerie.

If there were any fisherman out this morning, no one could see them.

The fog was so heavy. I wouldn't have been surprised to see a pirate ship come sailing up to our dock! Okay, pirates are not commonly known to frequent small, inland Michigan lakes, but the fog stirred my imagination. Legend says that pirates did come to Skidway Lake once, in 2006. Don't believe me? See for yourself!

we get some heavey duty fog in texas too next time i'll snap a few pics
Up in the Crow's nest, you'll see another Halloween fellow, Daddy Bones, with his spyglass. Since they are off duty until Halloween, we put them to work on the pirate ship.
Nice essay, Jan.
Good job Jan

Every summer we spend a week at Bull Shoals State Park. My favorite time of the day is in the early morning. I love to go down to the river when it's covered in a thick fog and just sit there and listen to the day come alive and the night time go to sleep. The night sounds of frogs croaking, crickets chirping, owls hooting are replaced by hearing Blue Herron's sounding off as they glide in through the thinning fog, fish jumping in the water, bee's starting to buzz around. In the evening, I love to go back down to the river and watch the fog roll in. It takes on the most amazing and interesting shapes. Like you said, you can just imagine pirates or early explorers coming up the river.
Thank you for such a nice essay. It brought back some really nice memories and made me look forward to next summers trip :-) Heck.....We are due for our fall camping trip. We may try to go back up there when the trees are at their peek color. It's either there or we'll go to the Crater of Diamonds and dig for diamonds.
the pirate ship is CUTE......lol
Great pictures Jan. I love foggy days on the lake having grown up on Belleville Lake in Wayne County. As a kid it was great to go fishing on the foggy lake.
Now 41!
Those are great.
