My house is a disaster........

And for the most part, I am almost ok with that.   I work full time and when I am not at work, I am here on the computer trying to earn an extra buck or two or I am spending time with my daughters and/or husband. Nothing exciting, but trying to be a little busier than a bump on a log.

I used to have a very clean house. I did all the chores everyday and baked and cooked all the time. Then I went back to work and you know what? I can do it all but I just don't want to. Something had to go and since sleep is a precious commodity, the perfectly mopped floor and sanitized counters went out the window.

 What is your house like and why? Are you ok with it, or fighting an uphill battle? Is it worth it?

No, no, no- Trust me, your house is NOT a disaster:

THIS house is a disaster.
My house is usually fairly well picked up, but things against the walls, and under tables tend to get cluttered looking. You can walk through the house, eat off the tables, and things on the floors get picked up just about daily, though. I'm happy with how it looks for the most part. ;)

My house is most definitely a disaster! I'm a homeschooling mom, so my morning are spent "rushing" and trying to at least get math done before we gotta go. that's 3 day sper week. 4th day a week we have dance class in afternoon. Anyway, my time is spent working with my daughter on her school, spending time w/ my 4yr old to help her learn her letters, being online trying to make as much $$ as I can so that we can manage to pay our bills.The house is my last concern. But I hate it because then I'm always frantically trying to clean up so no one else will see it. I hate it but not sure what can be done about it without giving up the online income

Princess, we have 3 dogs in the house. One is a boxer puppy who belongs to my daughter. This house is a disaster. If people come over I have to warn them about dog hair and toys. Need I say more?

Ok, Heather, I checked out your link and that is the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. Who smokes that much? They must have planned that and saved up cig. butts for about 6 years. Give me a break. If I were the owner of that place, I would sue the pants off of somebody.
Oh your house is not a disaster my house is. I work two jobs, have two kids and two grandkids. I don't have time to clean house. It's clean enough to be healthy, messy enough to be happy!

I often have arguements with my inlaws over them coming "Clean the house for me". In fact, the last time I had to threaten my dh with the law if they touched one thing in this house that belongs to me!
But this does create a problem for me this weekend as the insurance adjuster is coming to estimate the damages from the hurricanes, I have to get this place looking at least 1/2 decent!

I only work part time, and I still feel exhausted.
My chores seemed to be never ending. Dishes everyday, laundry twice a week, having to cook, sweep, and clean..
Until one day, I went on strike.
And, now my house is a mess more often than not. At least I can still walk on the floor thank goodness and that's how I think positive.
I understand what you mean completely.

My house is becomming a disaster.We are so cramped in this little apartment.We have boxes all around because of moving arraingements.I clean alot but find myself so plauged with working in the evenings and being overly stressed from things we've been dealing with that I just am worn out before getting other things done at times.The floor isn't as mopped as often and when I do I swiffer wet quick versus doing it properally.Lately like today I was vaccumming and realized I needed to start dinner.My toddler was pulling everything back out and creating such a mess.It was a constant stop and getting her somewhere else.Then that held up dinner and then I ended up not even getting it done since this evening we had to run out right after dinner.It seems to be the way my apartment is heading.I can't stand it.

I don't worry about the house appearance now. I'm earning money online until I get more hours at work. Spotwinner is a reward site where you get points looking at ads. I won right after one member on Gather and I traded referrals.

My house is generally pretty messy, too. There are usually toys and clothes in the floor in at least one room. We have three dogs and 2 cats, too, all inside. We vacuum at least one of our two floors almost every day (missing maybe 1 day a week), but it still seems like there is always hair everywhere. We also have tons of boxes that are still packed up, and just kind of thrown together all crazy in a small section of our basement. It is where our toddler can't get into them and get hurt so I'm fine with it for now.

I only mop when I have to, dishes spend the night in the sink sometimes, and toys generally get left out over night at least once or twice a week, but the important things are cleaned (like the bathrooms and the kitchen) more often. My house is definitely not spotless, but it's not going to make anyone sick. I don't work outside of the home, but I still feel like I have more important things to do, instead of cleaning my house. I love spending time with my 2.5 year old. I also do several things online so I can build up his college fund, along with my retirement savings, and just extra stuff for us. It works for us, and we are all happy with it. When either set of parents visit, that's another story...we live 1100 miles from home, though, so that's a rarity. I think the last time either set visited was about 2.5 years ago, shortly after our son was born. My mom visited the week he was born, and my in laws came when he was a month old.

The way I see it is this way. I own the house, the house does not own me! I don't like a dirty house, but there is a major difference in a dirty house and a messy house. =) I have no intentions of becomeing a slave to my house or my better half who can pick up after himself. My kitty's, well now thats different, I pick the toy's up and put them back in a box. They think it's a great game! I put them in...They drag them out...Alot like kid's. As well as husband. =p

dnbuster, my mom and sister keep a spotless house and I feel guilty sometimes because I can't keep up with them, but when my kids are grown they will always remember that our house is the one all their friends wanted to hang out in.

Actually, they are all grown and next summer the last one will be moving out. They still come over and make their messes here though. Can't seem to figure that one out.......

Carla, when my family comes to visit, we scour for a week. This year I wouldn't even let them come because of the puppy and potty accidents.

Cindy, our dogs do the same thing. And when they eat, they scatter food all over the floor. If I leave it there, they will go back and snack on it later. So I leave it. LOL

I live in an apartment, so you'd think it would be easier to keep neat. The problem is I have lived here over 12 years and have no more storage space of any kind. I keep throwing stuff out, but it's never enough to make space for the new stuff, so I have these little piles of stuff on the top of my desk, at the foot of my desk, at the end of my couch, etc. It really annoys me because my apartment feels cluttered. I have to do a major sifting through and throwing out, but I haven't had the heart to do it. Sigh.

Audrey, I have a lot of piles of random stuff too and I find them very distracting. Most of the time I have to just block it out or I will go totally nuts.

Wanna come visit me? You would feel like your place was sparkly clean, as well as nice smelling. LOL I have 5 kids (4 boys and 1 girl) a husband and a guinea pig. I can clean a room and move on to the next... go back to the last room and wonder what in the world could have happened in 15 minutes time to make it look like a tornado came through the house! Sometimes I joke that someone should call Hazmat to come in and clean the place up. Is there some Murphy's law out there I don't know about that says guys can't hit the toilet? :P

Oh and another thing I thought of.... when I clean my house spotless and spend every moment of the day picking up stuff and keeping it that way NO ONE EVER COMES OVER. It's insane. The first day I decide I don't want to clean and the house gets trashed there's the knock at the door. I could care less if it was my side of the family but WITHOUT FAIL every single time my mother in law or one of my sisters in law come over to the house to visit. I'm sure they think I'm a slob! I tell everyone when I feel like having company all I have to do is stop cleaning!

My mom joked and said I should take pictures of it next time I clean to show to the company that comes over!

Oh and I've heard the phrase before and it fits me so well.... I'm a piler and not a filer. I'm a paper pack rat seriously. I can't throw anything away because the second I do I'll decide I really can use it! It's a sickness I think, lol.

I like to keep my house clean. But have had problems with 20 year old daughter. i can spend along time cleaning and have house spotless. I sometimes have to go away for a couple nights and i cannot believe my eyes when i get back home. My daughter has the place a huge mess. I am totally exhausted trying to keep it clean. she helps some but not enough and it seems to get out of control, but not as bad as the house pic that was posted...eww.

I am a single mom that works full time. My house gets cluttered. I want it to look nicer, but it is just too much sometimes. Life is too short. The toilet is clean. The dishes are done, and the laundry is clean. I think I will take the rest of the day off.

After having the holiday here, my house is still a mess. I have bread crumbs on the counter still, alcohol bottles to dispose of, floors to mop, etc.

I wouldn't trade all the work for anything.

14 years ago you could come in my house and find everything in its place,no dust anywhere,no dishes in the sink.As soon as I came in from work I picked up what ever the kids had left out.Then my Dad got sick and I was running to the hospital every day.This is how I feel about my house now.
My house is dirty enough to be happy and clean enough to be heathly.
I dust every week not every day.I hope you have a great gather day!!!!!!!
